Hezzy you are a saint. Always know that.
Its also good to know that Garry insist on tearing the forum apart. Video forum was more active than creation corner and that was kept? (no offence creation corner but still).
Why he even bothers coming to Facepunch i dont know, he should just let Hezzy take care of the bunch. (not to add any pressure on you Hezzy, you do enough and if you dont want it than thats 100% cool with me)

I wanna add to this by stressing the importance of removing the upper, "solo" part of the hierarchy, at least for Garry.
my experiences are based on real-life aswell as online situations. often, the lack of the individual's perspective can hurt one's sight on something.
I can totally get it if Garry doesn't read all of this, but hopefully my quoted post does get read by someone can understand what I'm getting at, aswell as the means of influencing any decisions for this place foward.
Never make decisions like these without consulting others. Combined with the diagnosis as "chronically depressed" I've had the misfortune of seeing the consequence of making a 1-man decision for a whole god damn community. It's never pretty for anyone. It makes you feel like a terrible person afterwards, but you might not know why at first. I've suffered the deaths of several friend circles to state-financially supported organizations due to said ego. never have I seen something as messy as it, and never do I actually wish that upon anyone.
big communities can't ever thrive under one person. It needs other insights and decisions to it. It's a difficult decisions, due to the aforementioned ego being challenged as an outcome, but Facepunch as an internet community has grown big enough as a community that it needs to have more people calling the shot on the same equal line as the originator himself.
regardless who it should be, one person can't be held, nor should be held, responsible for this place. one person shouldn't need to bear the actual weight, financially and mentally, of this place. it's too big and at this point affects too many others.
despite this thread being about the videos subsection, I hope these two posts don't seem out of place for anyone, because it's still related to the root cause of it.
(I write this post with no idea how much this place cost. so forgive me for that, since I barely pay much for my own hosting services that never gets used by anyone but myself)
Keep up the good work.
You're doing great work, thank you.
"weed lmao" lmao
Looking around at the videos posted here in General and it seems like a lot of them get pushed out of view real fast. There are some videos on page 2 that have under 100 views and no posts that are probably doomed to never be seen again. Whereas on the Videos and Movies and that Kind of Crap forum they would usually stick around for awhile on the first page, ensuring that people would know they exist at all.
Stuff like this shouldn't be happening:
https://puu.sh/C1mcu/e6610df2a9.png
It's a thread on a popular youtuber that would normally get maybe a full page of posts on the old dedicated forums, but here in General it got viewed a mere 37 times, has zero replies, and was only posted 6 hours ago, yet it's been relegated to the second page. There are a handful of similar occurrence on page two, as well. This isn't just a one off thing. Go take a moment to look at page 2 and you'll see how many videos there are that aren't necessarily bad videos, but just got missed. I mean 6 hours is less time than someone sleeping so there's a good shot that people never even saw the above example posted. I know I didn't. Hell, I posted my own thread on a popular subject and a popular youtuber and it got 4 posts before being relegated to page 2.
I don't see this working out in the long run, as people will lose motivation to bother posting videos. Why post a video no one will see? Why go looking for videos if you have to dig around 5 pages of bullshit on General Discussion to find an interesting video? You can make arguments for and against having more or less forums for specific things, but the Video forum was something that always made clear sense to me and something I always enjoyed killing time on. Youtube is full of shit so having a forum to find videos fellow members found good enough to post kind of acted like a filter. There's simply no reason, in my mind, for it's removal.
Yeah, I posted the new half in the bag, didn't even see the thread since it was almost on the 3rd page.
What really baffles me is that the Videos subforum was the most in-line with Garry's dumbass 'reddit'-esque goals! New threads were posted for each new object of discussion, and naturally died off as new topics came up and the discussion naturally died off. It's exactly what he claims he wanted the forum to magically become.
It's almost like Garry doesn't use Reddit either.
Yeah that's also hard to miss. I've been pushing for (the good) bits of Reddit's design since the first day he mentioned it
Not only have we not added the good parts, we haven't even added the bad ones. Old FP had more Reddit-style features than we do now
I haven't seen this mentioned but the same is more or less happening to the GarrysMod General subforum with Screenshot threads* and Help threads. Idk why the help threads are suddenly flooding in though seeing as they still have a subforum.
*This was more prevalent when the other subforums first got ganked. It's mostly help threads now.
Old FP had more features period. Garry didn't even move over the features the forum did have.
And now we have less stuff ever since Newpunch arrived.
I'm going to go through all the video threads in General tomorrow to see which ones are posted legitimately or which ones are blatant spam (like posting 10 threads a day or whatever)
Back in the days I was posting maybe 1 or two videos a day if I didn't have a very busy week, a cursory look seems to indicate that its looks to be around the same ratio of 1 video per user per day in general but I haven't looked at it extensively. Even then, it wouldn't exactly be hard to fill the page in a day. That wasn't exactly uncommon when the video subforum was still up.
Gee makes u think ?
So posting videos in what is the video subforum is spam now? That's literally what this sub is for.
Oh no, people are posting a bunch of videos.
almost like we had a subforum for it, until it was taken away for no reason. Really makes you think.
Innocent people are going to be banned.
here comes the part where, after using the forums as instructed, hezzy tries to spin the situation to make the users look bad
"no, it's the userbase who are out of touch!"
There are a couple of users who are posting a lot of videos in General right now but I've looked through most of them and I strongly believe that all of the videos are quality content that at least somebody would be interested in.
The volume of videos posted to the section still doesn't match the volume posted to the old subforum, so you should really rethink this. Doing the same thing in the old subforum wouldn't have been bannable.
We're trying to demonstrate that the single subforum just doesn't have the room for the volume of quality video that we wish to share on the forums.
The video section was extremely active. It was already the model section for everyone.
Nothing needed changing. Now people are attempting to adapt to change by making it back the way it was.
I'm not seeing a lot of spam because if it exists it's gonna be quickly sent off the front page because no one posts in it. Though we will still look and you don't have to worry unless you're just posting a bunch of dumb bullshit in protest and filling up half the page with videos no one cares about. Which would've got you banned on the old video section, too.
You're probably not going to get banned
If you're in distress, blink twice.
Yeah, I understand that. It's different than what we're used to. Basically what I expressed in my previous post here.
Damn shame some people are this malevolent.
I also wanted to bring up the "mod sass" bans... I know it's always been a thing, but in the current climate of the site, I don't think it helps calm the discord.
Like, you all aren't banning for a lot of the stuff that used to be bannable anymore, right? So the few bans (flaming, trolling, etc.) are understandable, but then a mod sass ban when someone is just venting over a forum they've called home for so long (yet are usually okay with their posts most of the time) could cause people who see it to get even more irritated. I only wanted to bring that up so that you guys could maybe talk about it a little, the mod team.
I really want this place to last. It's been my home away from all the depression and bad shit I've dealt with in reality, and even though there are people I disagree with on every post they make... I love every single one of you. I'd hate to see us all just dissipate and float away to different places. The old chaos worked, in its own funny way. The fact that we have so many inside jokes alone (badage boys, that cat, my wet dream, etc.), shows that. So I'm bringing the ban stuff up just because I'd be very grateful if you guys just kinda looked it over a little for the sake of this medium-sized community we've kept going for so long.
Love y'all. Mods, blues, golds, Garry. Let's make FP great again.
posting videos threads where you're supposed to is now malevolent???
If you are spamming them just to be spamming then yes.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
