We just have to wait until the new year and see what happens to the forums
I've been using that scripted that was posted earlier... it kinda works; but it pales in comparison to the time I used to spend in the Video Subforums...
Ditto. It's better than nothing but it's a bit clunky.
I'd be overjoyed if the videos section came back. the line between fast threads and general kinda got blurred with time, so a merger between those two made sense. but should it be possible in 2019, I'd love for videos and other sorts of similar media regain a section of their own. nothing can beat the hour spent on an afternoon just scrolling through the latest videos people have deemed worthy of sharing, like I legitimately miss the video section for all the cool stuff people posted there.
It feels like it's just putting off the inevitable at this point.
I can't see the forums staying up anyway at this rate let alone the video section coming back, I mean what is waiting until January to decide going to do? Garry has already demonstrated that he both thinks there is no point in the forums existing and is pretty out of touch with the userbase and why a lot of people prefer message boards over Reddit, two completely different things. Then the forums which were previously working fine having loads of really weird changes which seem to be universally hated but just kept anyway out of what seems like this weird obsession of trying to turn them into some kind of bastardized Reddit with a few subreddits but with none of the appeal either a forum or Reddit.
I'm just curious as to what happened for Garry to go from being enthusiastic about creating a new cool stylish forum system with lots of ideas and a roadmap to slowing way down on development then doing a 180 and deciding the forums are a pointless moneysink and they may as well be shut down.
Sure the resistance to his ideas of what the forum should be might not have helped but maybe running polls or seeing if people have anything interesting to say on new changes might have helped instead of just forcing random sweeping changes with really weak justifications and telling people to suck it up then threatening to shut it all down because people don't like it.
