Let's make one thing clear though: this is going to make gangbusters. In fact, I suspect it might be the most successful video game movie adaptation ever.
I looked through the Youtube comments.
Yep, this movie's gonna print money.
i was okay-ish with the designs until i saw that fucking mr. mime

Never in my life has a trailer given me such a visceral response.
I was honestly screaming.
Here's the designs in real life.

Mewtwo is central to the plot of the Detective Pikachu game, so I imagine since it's an adaptation, it will be central here as well.
On the one hand, jesus titty cinnamon this is creepy.
On the other, I can't wait to watch it, it looks fun.
Mister Mime looks like this

How the fuck are you supposed to make that look good in CGI
I will say one thing, they look better in motion then they do in freeze frame. Dear good some of that is nightmare fuel.
This is just so weird, now I need to see it. Its a lot more "dark" than I expected. It will be a miracle if this actually does well critically, but I definitely see it selling well.
I kinda like it...
I mean it doesn't look terrible. I think it could be fun.
I think why I like it is it has this gritty visual style, which in my mind would fit the earlier games pretty well, but the movie itself isnt some gritty edgy bullshit. It knows its weird and its not taking itself seriously.

Hey kids, meme economy is strong here, buy now before it's too late.
"...While promoting It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia at the LA Paley Center for Media, DeVito was asked if he knew about the petition and if he wanted the role. DeVito initially answered "no" to both before asking "What the fuck is Pokémon?"
A lot of Pokémon don't translate well to CGI. But for what they got, it's not bad.
We truly live in the worst timeline
Yeah I think illumination working on the Mario movie is way better than whatever this is.
Reminder that I stopped following pokemon since the first gen.
Also if this cgi is that bad I'm worried for the sonic movie.
Hollywood was a mistake.
But seriously, why would you make the Pokemon look """"""""realistic""""""""? It looks like shit.
Ok, now I understand. The guy that actually did the realistic Pokemon textures and translated lots of different monsters to real life creatures actually did the concept art for it.

You'll change your mind when you see Mario dancing to shitty pop music
I don't understand why not just make the whole thing CGI
Just about every year there's a film release that is mostly CGI/hand drawn stuff, so I think it comes down to Hollywood money again. I can't find the story now, but I believe the Detective Pikachu working script outline came across the desk of every Hollywood production company and the second largest, if not the largest, bidding war began.
I dunno I thought Pikachu looked pretty cute
Basically I feel that, yeah the Pokemon look weird but also it's probably the best they could look in a live action environment
Christ this just reminds me of all the horrible "realistic Pokemon" art pieces that people make.

That Mister Mime looks like the monster you'd find in a budget horror movie.
The CGI is so weird and unsettling. It's perfect.
Why not just go the Who Framed Roger Rabbit route?
