Six hours? Wow, it really is a full new game like they said it would be. (Given that Half Life 2: Episode 1 and 2 were both around the same length.)
Xen is one of my favorite parts of HL1, fite me
This looks amazing for Source, now I'm kinda glad the Black Mesa team operates on Valve Time
The textureless model's been out there for a while now and as far as I can tell it's the same model you can see at the start of this trailer. He looks a little different, the eyes and mouth are bigger than the classic model. Less like a shrunken head and more like a baby with a fish mouth.
Next thing they know they will open up their own store and then get gradually corrupted by microtransactions and ripping off franchises just like the original Valve until a double nested team pops up.
Source can look super good if you have the know how.
They have the engine source and have been making their own modifications to it.
I’m kinda surprised they haven’t shoved PBR in there. Then again, that would be a LOT of dev time.
PBR?
They've been playing engine catch up for so long that I'm sure they'd rather just finish the project
Kind of gave me subnautica vibes for some reason.
It's less the Source engine, and more just excellent art direction.
Will the combat against the grunts be fixed? As it stands right now, compared to HL1's fire and maneuver, Black Mesa is more corner peaking and ducking because they all focus on your really fast, their accuracy is pretty intense, and combining the two you don't have enough health to move around like you did in Half-Life 1.
That was fixed ages ago
Damn. I've been holding off on playing Black Mesa till Xen was out..
Now I kinda want to keep holding until those updates roll out too.
It’s a maybe, no promises
Peanut Butter and Raisins
He's right though it would take a lot of time to shove that much flavor into the engine
Yes
Yes!
YES!
You lost me.
This looks incredible. It's a little less desolate and hostile-looking than I would've liked based on how I viewed the original Xen, but honestly the traces of human presence and the colors make a bit more sense considering "Questionable Ethics" and just how alive Xen supposedly is.
Ive had black mesa for a couple years now but have only played the opening chapter. Been waiting on xen to play through the whole thing.
The devs said that the "Xen" environments in Questionable Ethics are not actually made of Xen materials, just fake recreations. Kind of like how a zoo has fake rocks and trees and stuff.
well, yeah, sure, but that doesn't change the fact how cool it would be if there was a more extensive alien zoo present. I don't need every asset of the theme, I just want recreations of their habitat for a more fleshed out facility.
I'll forever believe the xen "zoos" are made out of organic material the same way it starts infesting black mesa after a while
No, those are a real thing in the game. I thought he was talking about the "Xen Rooms" in Questionable Ethics, like the one you can gas the headcrabs in.
I know people who've done that just to see if they can, so it's not that bad. The only real problem is remaking every single asset in the game to be PBR, which probably means throwing the majority of it out as it'd need to be remade from high to low, or for textures, simply remade from scratch.
If I'm not entirely mistaken, the team did actually look into PBR and came to this exact conclusion. It would've been doable, but the insane amount of work to redo the textures was not worth it.
There's no way this is STILL Source. No way.
It's Source, but since they signed on with Valve, they have full access to the Source engine and all of it's features, even the ability to add or change features if they need.
I wanna see how they handled the G-Man's ending. Gonna be interesting to see what their sound-alike... sounds... like. Heh.
can it be the kid yelling at the top of his lungs
