They don't understand that by catching him with this cash and him not having a reasonable explanation for where he got it, is enough for a guilty verdict.
Don't know about the UK, but I'm guessing it's somewhat similar to back here.
When someone meets certain money laundering typologies, it's enough to say they are suspected of money laundering.
Money laundering is nothing more than disguising the origin of an object.
Under POCA (The proceeds of crime act) if a significant sum of money is found (I.e. over roughly £1000) it is allowed for police officers to seize it if they suspect it is the result of/going to be spent on criminal activity. The cash can be seized for 48 hours, during which the individual is expected to explain where it came from. If they cannot explain where it came from then it’s fairly easy to seize the money permanently.
