Not to downplay your skills, but the amount of damage the boss takes per hit even from a level 1 character and how noticeable his patterns are is still baffling to me, especially since the level of challenge (and quantity) of the secret bosses from Kingdom Hearts II
You have to remember that the secret bosses you're thinking of are from Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix. The base Kingdom Hearts II only had one superboss, Sephiroth, who also had very predictable patterns.
And this video makes it look like I had his patterns down, but that was only after a ton of trial and error, and I got lucky because he didn't use any of his unusual patterns in his third phase this time. I can and have misjudged what pattern he was going to use and responded with the wrong counter, and got the shit beat out of me for it. Even the final attacks that I can stagger him out of I've died to because he flipped behind me before striking, attacking behind my block and killing me.
