Does every single Zelda game need to have fans arguing over whether the artstyle is "good" or not before we even get to play it? Wind Waker was too "kiddy" and "cartoony". Twilight Princess was too "grimdark" (and Midna was "too anime"). Skyward Sword was "just Twilight Princess with more lighting". Link Between Worlds had "terrible perspective". Tri Force Heroes was too "modern". I'm sure some people were bitching about BotW art before it came out too, I just can't remember what about. If you're still playing Zelda games after this many of them, I think you can just trust Nintendo to have some idea what they're doing. I'm not a particular fan of this style, I wouldn't have come up with that myself*, but it's perfectly fine and I'm sure it fits the specific type of game they're trying to make. * I really want to see a Zelda game with a stained glass aesthetic. Use low-poly, Wind Waker-ish models, with a sharp cel-shading lighting engine, then do a postprocess effect for the stain and leading. And then maybe do another lighting pass to make it more glass-like. I think that would look really cool, and fit a Zelda game really well. If Nintendo ever decides to hand me the Zelda franchise, that's totally what I'm doing.
I mean just because I don't like the aesthetic, doesn't mean I don't think itll be a great game. I trust Nintendo in make a quality game. I will definitely play this, and probably think its great. That being said if it was in a style like how your describing, Windwaker-esc, I would probably think its a better game.
I think I really like the artstyle but I'm not sold on the musical direction I feel like it could ruin the impact of a lot of the songs if they all get the same treatment
The cutesy version of the Zelda theme reminded me of something & now I can't see this game without hearing this theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4k36HIMifw
