AI-driven makeup is going to be an interesting field of CGI.
I'm pretty sure they crop and align the images used for the training dataset beforehand. This makes it easier to train the neural network and the result is much more effective.
I think one of the reasons why NNs can produce such good results with human faces is because they're actually very similar to one another. Everyone has two eyes, a nose, mouth and ears in roughly the same place, and the difference between faces are just slight variations in size, shape, color and texture of these features from person to person.
