I really don't think having the forums be a subscription or pay to join would be a good idea. Would create a large barrier of entry. If you do decide to go with paid features, please just have payment for the feature directly rather than credit packs.

A new forum could be called The bruise or something else involving the aftermath of getting a facepunch.
weird to think this place might go, but I know something else will take its place. And I’ll follow the community of FP till I’m dead most likely.
Can we settle for some mods like HL2CTF or SourceForts?
Gmod could use a new dm gamemode its been a while since I looked tbh, that would be a good candidate for a community event.
again shoot shit and ideas in this thread
While it was probably the right call disabling them, I loved it when we could rate RC posts. So many people having hissy fits took ratings way too seriously. !goatvan xD
allow /rtv where we can vote on a new domain for the forums

I am glad that you seem to be planning for a SomethingAwful kind of forum store where you can buy upgrades and avatars/titles for other users. I think this is a fantastic way to develop some forum monetization with virtually no downside. You'll probably have a couple people that get caremad about someone giving them an embarrassing avatar or title, but that's what they paid for. I would just institute a human review process so you don't have someone who buys an avatar for themselves and then immediately has it overwritten by a shitposter, putting the user out their original $5 or whatever it costs to do that shit. Also, bring back signatures
I think I'd be down for paying for signature space, or titles as long as they're not too big or annoying.
Buying titles for other people needs to work differently from before. On my oldpunch account, I got gifted a title which I didn't mind personally, but it eventually got me into some shit that I absolutely did not expect happening and it messed with my life for a few months. That sounds completely ridiculous, but you can't trust everyone who comes to the forums to be level-headed or completely reasonable when interacting with others and some extra discretion is needed when dealing with someone's public face. Customization of a user's identity and profile should be left entirely to the user's own choices, or you can have some extra incentives/options for buying things for other people, as long as it's not entirely forced on people.
I'd love to be able to run banner ads on nupunch, but $1 per 50 impressions (at minimum) is absolutely insane. I read on the average 6-9 articles from Sensationalist Headlines, so in theory a really active user would burn up all the impressions, which is counter-productive to the point of advertisements (getting as many people as possible to see the ad, not one person multiple times). Unless you're able to guarantee a certain amount of clickthrough/impressions (because of ad blocking extensions), I'd increase the amount of views per dollar.
One of the things I asked for a while ago in oldpunch was a split between SH and political stuff which lead to Polidicks being established. I'm really happy that this was implemented and stayed in place, it makes reading general news a lot more enjoyable. I've made a few videos about FP basically mocking threads/subforums/users for laughs, but I feel less inspired to do this on Newpunch. Private messaging and profile comments added to the sense of community and gave me good material to work with in making the videos. You can see how many people are in a subforum on Newpunch but not in the threads, nor which users are browsing which is something I would like back. Also in oldpunch there was a greater sense of classism when join date and post count was shown, and this has since been replaced with levels. This is probably for the better but I felt both of those metrics gave a better community sense, since you could see others who joined around the same time as you and who has way too much time spent on FP with 20k+ posts.
Well this census all but confirmed to me that the forums aren't long for this world which is hella sad . I thought of this after I submitted, but some sort of badge/achievement system you could show off on your profile sounds like a interesting feature for a new forum. You could have little badge icons that'd only show up on your profile page (To reduce clutter on avatars in threads) that would be achievements like "100,000 Posts", "Old Forum Vet", "10 Year Vet", etc.
I have to second being opposed to buying others' titles. As I mentioned in the census itself, back when the forums had it, I was bullied by some asshat who had entirely too much free money on his hands and the total inability to let go a petty grudge. He changed my title to be a huge, obnoxious paragraph in bright-red letters at the max font, to the point that I'd take up an entire page's worth of height by myself with each post. And every time it was changed, he'd just pay to change it back. He probably changed it at least 10 times. I think buying titles for yourself is cool and all, but anything that affects other uses just opens itself up for being abused. Never underestimate how far some people will go to satisfy their petty vendettas. I've had one person with entirely too much spare money laying around be on a never-ending campaign against me for over 6 years now. At one point he literally paid people hundreds of dollars to spam me with dozens of hate messages. I only learned of it because afterwards, one of the people who did it messaged me again to apologize for it, and admitted he only died it because he was "paid $200 by some guy to go spam" me.
bring news bot back
Sounds like a good way to make money for the forum :^) If users changing other users' titles is an issue, the solution could be increasing the (global?) cost every time they do it. Of course, changing your own title stays at a constant price.
make clearing your own title free problem solved
monetize boostar style with maybe that added currency shit. as long as i can dab on the non paying members idc. make it good hezzy and i will pay you.
Perfect
I voted for premade forum software but I really have no knowledge to give opinion on that choice Should've been don't know / don't care choice
I think a custom forum is the way to go if it's made safe. I remember the old forums had lots of old vulnerabilities because we either didn't update the software or couldn't. In one case one of the mods got hacked and made an annoucement with JS embedded in the title that actually executed. Pretty nuts

The thing about signatures is that it's really effective ad space for whatever the user needs, there's more to it than gemstone quizes and Edgar Allen Poe quotes
It should be run by votes on changes, votes costing 1000 coins and you get 1.
Only have the pay for someones ban if it costs $10,000, has to be verifed it was paid first, and is only for a month. ONLY THAT.
