Are man-children common in American engineering? I am an accountant in Australia and I never once had such displeasure with my university colleagues. And although everyone at my firm has different perspectives on how jobs should be done, everyone just keeps their heads down and soldier on.

The "map(minor attracted person[PEDOPHILE])" community that's popped up on twitter drives me fucking crazy. They genuinely think that they're some marginalized group on the same level as lgbt people, and that they deserve a platform and respect for announcing to the world that they want to diddle kids in their bio.

Basically, American colleges of engineering have stupidly low standards. It results in a lot of people who really have no business doing engineering ending up in the field. These people, from my experience, often have a superiority complex. They demand to be an authority on everything "because they're an engineer" and get obscenely mad at being challenged by a perceived equal or inferior. I used to interview people at my last job. It was depressing how many of them had numerous and flagrant misspellings on their resumes and couldn't do basic arithmetic. I'd always ask for prade-point average if it wasn't already listed and never heard a number that didn't start with 1 or 2, which is dismal.

Haha I can relate to that arithmetic one. In our firm when we finish jobs, we prepare post-job sheets for the administration staff, so they know how much to invoice the client. On one post-job sheet which I prepared recently, I provided an equation of the total billable amount + GST (as we do), but I still received a call from administration, because they couldn’t apply BIMDAS to figure out how I arrived at the total. In other words, a person at an accounting firm couldn’t figure out how (3900 + ((3500 ÷ 2) + 250)) x 1.1 = 6490.

Having parents that curse pretty much every computer they ever touch with me having to fix it. Even worse when one of the parents is a know-it-all that believes that nothing can ever be their fault.

Maybe I’m being a bit petty here, but fast food places in Australia have had their quality of service really decrease over the past few years. Every single time I drive past a Maccas, the drive-through bays are completely packed, regardless of the time of day. I don’t think it’s because they’re understaffed. Rather, they’ve insisted that all their coffee now be made within the McCafé, and so every single person who wants a coffee has to sit and wait a few minutes for theirs to be made. And it blocks literally everyone else in the queue. I remember a few years ago they would just have a simple coffee machine that could prepare a no bullshit coffee in a few seconds. But now every coffee has to be prepared from scratch by a ~barista~. If I wanted a properly decent cup of coffee, I wouldn’t go to a bloody Maccas for it. And walking in is no better. They have those touch screen displays to order from that never seem to work properly (eg hard to scroll up or down) and feel really unhygienic to use. They don’t even offer wipes to clean your fingers with. KFC on the other hand? Consistently understaffed.

TV show writers that seem to think that adding a celebrity to an episode will just suddenly make everything funnier/better. It doesn't.

A bit off topic, and I don't mean to further ruin your mood, but it's only gonna get worse. Academic staff in Poland gives even less of a shit than any teacher, save for a handful. I vehemently encourage you to apply for a college abroad. Our higher education system is pretty terrible.

I've already seen the movie so I didn't get it spoiled, but people hide spoilers in a gif/apng where the first frame (and on account of that, thumbnail) is a picture of a duck, a video game screenshot or whatever.

I know they're fine for Europe, though just comparing this with US prices you start to realize how expensive fuel is here. Maybe it's a pointless rant but still, just had to get that out for a sec, sorry.

America is just way bigger with far more frequent and intense car usage with little public transport outside of major cities and nobody carpools because time/distance rarely works out to allow it. But I get not wanting to spend a lot of money just for some independancy! Rant's not as pointless as you think. If it cost as much here as it did over there, this country would be fucked.

That comment section is relatively tame; I only noticed 2 comments in the first 30 or so that looked out of place. What I have found to be more perverse is any time there’s a female presenter or guest on an educational video, then literally every second comment is bound to be something like ‘her voice is so ASMR’ (why the fuck has ‘ASMR’ become a thing over the past year?) or ‘she’s so beautiful’. Never mind that ‘she’ is a PhD candidate or a full Doctor, and provides fantastic insights. No, people mostly care about how she looks. Imagine if comments sections were like that for male presenters or guests.

Pretty much this, making no distinction and making not even no attempt of nuance may actually be more harmful by pushing non-criminal paedophiles even more to the fringes of society instead of helping them stay non-violent. All they did at that point would be thought crime only. I am not even suggesting making child sexualisation normal or that kiddy diddlers aren't the worst type of people walking on the planet since some always seem to get the wrong idea. Children aren't fully developed and are vulnerable and need that protection. But the blind frenzy surrounding this topic makes actual helpful discussions and solutions harder then they need to be. And they lead to this brain-dead train of thought of banning media based on and depicting fiction that is "loli/shota makes you paedophile". I am for effective and thoughtful solutions minimizing harm for all involved, not acting out of fear and spite that harms more people than it helps.

I really hate working with older people and technology. A fair amount of older people I've met make absolutely no attempts to learn how to use it and demand that you babysit them through the whole process. We have kiosks at our photolab for ordering pictures. They're pretty simple to use as long as you follow the button prompts, but we get these people who refuse to even attempt to learn how to use them and bog down everything because they want you to babysit them through the entire process.

Bonus points when they bitch and freakout when something breaks and they think it's your fault. Also STG if I get bailed out on again tonight I'm going to be pretty upset.

there are three versions of the Sugarcubes' wonderful debut album Life is Good on Spotify two of them are perfectly fine, just different pressings with a slightly different shade of background color on the cover art but one of the version is blatantly and perceptibly worse in audio quality for reasons that are wholly incomprehensible to me and every time spotify throws a song from Life is Good into a daily mix or a playlist or what have you it is somehow magically amazing at always choosing the shitty version of the album with two perfectly functional versions on the service what makes it worse is the fact that the shitty version is the exact same color as one of the non-shitty versions so it's impossible to tell which it is until you listen to it, and seconds listening to shitty Sugarcubes are seconds spent not listening to the blessed noise that is young Björk's voice

On another note, I burst a few veins when people's solution to getting images on their phone is to do a screenshot of their screen. And then they try to print those images.
