Looks like I picked the wrong month to go back on FP with everything going on. Weird to think that this May will be 10 years since I first joined.
What kind of association is Knockout going to have with gmod/source games?
I don't even remember what Facepunch was like back when i registered. Anybody got screenshots from back then?
The very first version (04/early 05) was phpBB based, and it was moved to vBulletin 3 in April 05.

Locking down the discord for a hostile takeover is just the dumbest way to go about it
if you guys wanna jump ship by all means go for it - until today i'd have followed you if FP truly bit it - but don't try to force everyone else into going along with it like this. that's not cool.

Are you trying to divide the community? It'd be one thing if you had left with the mod team like you said, Hezzy, but using hostage tactics in order to literally bribe people over to Knockout is going to piss a shitload of people off. I can only assume that @Inacio was also in on this, and that this was officially sanctioned. The only thing I can say is... Why? You're going to force Garry to kill the forums off at this rate. The community is already tearing itself to pieces because of this move, and he's going to see that big glaring negative like he always has as an excuse to kill it once and for all.

Just open the damn FP Discord back up. People had shown willingness to move over to Knockout when the bell finally tolls for this place. After all, the regulars know this is on life support at this point, and Knockout has been advertised quite well.
All this has done is given everyone who wasn't already a Knockout fanatic a bad taste in their mouths.
Most def put a sour taste in my mouth about Knockout. I really doubt Inacio had anything to do with it, but seriously, such a childish thing to do.

Whoa I totally didn't interpret it like that. I guess it kinda made sense (to me) to lock the channel that everybody was flipping out in so everybody can be informed as soon as they click on it.
Slowmoding the channels was all that was really needed. Slowmode is fucking excellent at preventing people from spamming as it's generally only ever a handful of people anyway. Locking the channels down totally and then spamming the everloving shit out of Knockout links was counter-productive. If the channel was going to be locked down, a message explaining what's going on and a suggestion in a single channel to join Knockout would have been perfect.

I personally don't know why the FP discord was closed either. It was a little bit premature, but at the same time it may have been an opportunistic time to plug KO when it was unclear whether FP would come back up.
I'd like to think garry would give us some warning the day of before it happens, at least. Trouble is I don't know whether to expect that so next time could very much be the last time for all we know.

Exactly as intended, as said the threads going up in a bit will explain the course of action. The plan from the start was to lock down the discord to both inform people and to hand it over.
Give them a few minutes to just arrange themselves, the forums only just cropped back up.
Seriously, I love what Inacio has done with Knockout, but being this aggressive about the moving is honestly a bit shitty, the Discord lockup is fucking awful and gives me a very bad taste in my mouth about the people that manage the new forums.
TBH hostile takeover by people that care + mods over their forum thats going to be deleted soon is fair fucking game lol.

At the same time it is important not to completely disparage the feelings of those who posted above. They felt that it was in bad taste, and so we shouldn't just steamroll over them.
I had nothing to do with the discord getting shut down, but I just wanna say sorry to everyone who took offense to it, and I hope that we can all stick together as a community.
everyone knew about knockout and anyone who didn't could have been informed at the time it actually became necessary such as through the discord
it was supposed to be a fallback plan if garry decided to close the forums, but that's not what's happening
Like I get it, nobody likes not having a voice. At a certain point though you need to be able to get a message across that nobody can miss. You have to make the signal to noise ration better, by reducing the noise.
