The reason it's locked is because he is tired of running the FP discord because he is no longer employeed by Facepunch. He contacted garry to transfer ownership, it's locked until then.
It's not a hostile takeover, it was done to inform people. A post is going up on Facepunch soon once it's been proofread. You're free to continue thinking it's a hostile takeover, but you're wrong.
Yes, but the forums were down and nobody knew if it was for real this time. People speculated that it would come back, and they were right, but if they weren't then there probably was a short window to catch the majority of the traffic from FP with the ad.
I'll say again that I agree shutting down the discord was a bad move.

Considering the way FP reacts every time the servers so much as hiccups I think it kinda makes sense to lock down the Discord until shit can actually get sorted. The usual round of IS FP DEAD FOR REAL THIS TIME and subsequent shitposting kinda has a tendency to completely overwhelm any actual information on the situation
I didn't know hezzy was the forced to mod the discord, that changes things a bit.
Is it not a forgone conclusion at this point that Garry is going to close the forums though? We're all just waiting for it to actually happen
nobody wanted it to come to this. no, not even me. we did it out of necessity. and hezzy was fired from fp. the discord is his, and he no longer wants to run it. the forums going down was just timing.
apparently fp has already been contacted to take over, but in the meantime itll stay locked (unless hezzy wants it to not be locked anymore - none of us have permissions to change it)

FP downtime is rarely graceful. But this particular time appears to have really fucked with community trust in the guys who will now actually be running the show. Though the explanation for why the Discord is locked still makes sense, I'm not sure why it was even locked in the first place. It was fine and dandy until the downtime after all.
Not saying you were, but people keep yelling about how it's a hostile takeover and how it's handled like dogshit and it's getting really annoying because they didn't have the full story.
The discord was planned to be locked, its just everything got pushed forward due to the sudden downtime, I can see why it looks bad, but it was all part of what they planned.

FP is already halfway into debasing itself. Knockout is just where the refugees go. There's nothing about dividing; just people migrating or letting go.
TBH, I'll probably settle down in some Discord server with a nice LMAO/YLYL channel.
I'm surprised with how this is turning out. But I'm not angry about it either. With Garry ignoring us like this it feels pretty awful. Shoutout to the Mods for trying to keep a community together. Thank you guys.

Wow, I sorta had hopes for knockout but this sorta aggressive stuff doesn't fill me with too much hope with how it'll turn out.

Look, this site is doomed. The sooner you accept that and move over to the sequel forum that the entire mod team and a good chunk of the community has decided to use, the less painful it'll be. Complaining about "opportunistic sabotage" (lol) isn't going to fix anything. But if you want to eventually start visiting a 503 page every day, be my guest.

afaik there are ui mods you can use and that they are working on. There will even be a FP classic skin eventually.
They're open to criticism to it, its WIP so it can always change.
If theres anything you can suggest I'd recommend going to the trello board for it.
Just want to second this, and also express that I think the write up about the situation elegantly sums up where we're at (since it's locked). I understand the hurt feelings, and can do nothing but hope the best for every FPer, whether you decide to join Knockout or not. =)

Theme system works out of the box so expect a few more official themes other than Dark/Light further down the line.
better to start herding people to knockout now rather than waiting for the forum to actually die imo
