Forum Discussion VII: We had a good run - General

No matter what happens, I want to thank everyone for being so awesome. I've legitimately met some of my best friends through this website, and it has been a really unique experience to be part of this community. None of the other sites I frequent have such an entertaining and engaging userbase.

I don't want to go to a different website with a different name. It isn't facepunch, and it will have hardly as many users

I'll be migrating to Knockout. I really enjoyed this forum for all the friends it gave me and all the laughs I've had. Thanks for being awesome, good times were had.

He got fired and was left with the discord in his lap. Sure, no-one was forcing him to keep it running, but he did anyways for a good while after he was let go.

garry has consistently denied our requests to do this. We requested he allow a community member(or members) to update it. He said no, legal shit. We requested he hire someone to his company to be a web dev. He said no, legal shit. Garry doesn't want us anymore.

We've explained this over a thousand times. Not going to happen, Garry can not and will not hand it over to someone else. This is the only solution to the problem other than just letting it die.

Facepunch is not a website, it's people. We are what make facepunch, facepunch. No matter what forum software we use as long as we are still the same community, it will be no different.

You're right. It was a bad decision. We aren't declaring anarchy and most of us will still be moderating this site. I'll re-sticky those threads.

Our culture of posters and moderators is what made us unique, and it is what will continue to make us unique as we move onto KO. We aren't something that can be simply replaced by reddit.

I'm movin over to knockout if need be. These forums have been on life support since the move, and I'd rather go to a forum that can receive active development by people who care about this place. It won't be the same and I don't want to shit talk people talking about how this is bein handled regardless of what side you're on, but I genuinely think its far far better to just move to knockout now while we have more than the 5 people that'd be left when Garry remembers to shut down the FP forum. I'm not part of Knockout development but thats just my 2 cents if you've got a problem with something on Knockout, I'd say just voice your opinion. Like I said it actually has active developers and if enough people want something I get the feeling you'll have it sooner than you would on this forum

No. Most of us will continue moderating FP until its end.

I mean, if the forums die, I would gladly hop onto Knockout to stay with this community I've been with since 2010. It just seems really weird when the mods take over all the sub forums to sticky threads advertising the other community. It made it feel like your plan was to stop moderating this website altogether and let it get flooded with spam so that Garry'd have no choice but to shut it down.

Its less a push more planned action, they'll be here and there until this site stops loading basically. Its just due to the downtime it caused the weekend plan to do everything to get done, sooner. Again, the stickied threads explain it.

it's gonna be bittersweet to say goodbye to Facepunch as i've been part of it for years, but i've been using knockout for a while and its showing a ton of promise. will be going there alongside most others thanks for everything, facepunch, you were a website

That's cool, I'm just pointing out that a lot of us have a bad taste in our mouths because the actions taken didn't really seem to speak that at all.

It wasn't the plan, but I get how it can seem like that. Most of us will stick around.

In regards to Flak being Hezzy's mouthpiece, why didn't Hezzy just pin something in announcements something to the effect of: "Due to my redundancy, I am no longer going to be maintaining ownership of the Discord server. I will be handing over the keys to Facepunch Studios staff, and we'll see what happens from there. Kind regards, Hezzy" Boom, done. He wouldn't need Flak to wait two hours, maybe more for the forums to come back up, and any talk of either active sabotage or this being a collusion between Inacio would've been nipped in the bud instantly. Hell, you do that you wouldn't even need to lock down the entire Discord. The community that's already fragmenting more than a fucking hand grenade could hold on until Judge, Jury and Executioner Garry decided whether or not to pull the plug on the forums and Discord, which would have further soothed fears that this was a "hostile takeover" or whatever it is people are saying.

Garry sees Reddit as the future, but his personality is going to cost him there. You think Reddit is going to put up with your shit nearly as much as we have Garry? They'll turn against you pretty quick and won't have any issues with tarnishing your name across the entire site if you pull your shit there.
