Usually we won't ban for ratings, but there are some lines you don't cross. If you consistently keep rating tragedies funny/winner/diamond or whatever, and then rate people who are mourning "baby", well yeah then you're asking for it.

I really respect that decision and it's one of the reasons why despite any mishaps and disagreements within the community or moderation, I'm glad moderators aren't robots who just adhere to a strict guideline and look at things from a case-by-case basis and own discretion.

I think it's better ratings be deactivated in Sensationalist/Polidicks that way you have to actually have input in the thread if you want to voice an opinion as to avoid these situations all together rather than to have a 'ratings don't matter rule' that is suddenly enforced in reverse. (which i commend) I don't approve of that guy's ratings by the way, I just think it's best to avoid having it occur in the first place.

I'd imagine that it would turning off ratings would prevent people giving others gold coins/diamonds. I'm not ENTIRELY opposed to the idea myself but it's only in rare conditions that I myself enforce the reverse so I don't see much point. It's only in the extreme situations where that rule sucks ass and they happen ever so infrequently/rare. I like your thoughts(as a user!) but I myself from a mod perspective can't justify it.

How do you qoute a selection of text from another user's post in your post? Reply brings it all and I must be blind because I can't find any button specifically select the text I want qouted.

@Hezzy Apologize if you've recently answered this but have you heard anything at all from Garry about what's going to happen to the forums? Iirc he said he was going to decide early into the year (assuming he doesn't forget).

Garry has all but abandoned the forums

I haven't heard anything from him since mid January when he made me redundant

I'm extremely glad our local community leaders are on top of this. Atleast they're keeping track, even if the big man himself isn't. You get this alot, but thank you Inacio & Hezzy. You're bringing us through the grimdark future of 2019.

I would rather take the slow death by neglect over Garry shitting up the forums with changes he knows everybody hates every five minutes, personally. Calm before the inevitable nuke makes it much easier to prepare for the transition.

If he actually listened to the feedback Hezzy had collected and pumped out a few good features over a weekend or a day or two at work, nobody would have complained and Garry wouldn't have told people to fuck off out of annoyance.

We all should know by now and years ago. He isn't very good at criticism/suggestions but on the other hand... A lot of it did get a tad hostile due to the frustrations from the initial wait/stagnant developments.

The problem with the slow and drawn-out death is that the userbase will be too split. Just like when Newpunch was introduced, when it operated alongside Oldpunch the users were split among both sites, only when Oldpunch was shut down everyone moved.

Why did he even create Newpunch if he was just going to kill off the forums?

Cause we are meanies and hurt his feelings

This is where my 1,000 OIFY idea comes in, we make this forum unusable so people switch

Needed a more secure stop gap. I'd take these or any other forums than the taped together vBulletin we had on Oldpunch when it comes down to security but for everything else... Yeah... vBulletin blew it out of the water, even with the plugins and modifications. Knockout however is going to replace everything here, and give us some comforts of old punch and many more things ;) Bless our lord and savior @Inacio

The idea was to link the forums directly into Facepunch's games. Garry got fed up with the relatively tedious work of making the forums, the complaining (which was generally justified but often overly harsh IMO), and needing to work on other projects at the same time. He also never used to forums so he didn't see the point in keeping them after a while, saying he thought it might be better to just have a subreddit. Pretty much everyone here would disagree, I think.

If it wasn't for these forums Garry's Mod wouldn't have been as successful as it is.

Whoa that was really touch and go with the whole site being down for a full 5 minutes. Just hold on girl a little more longer.

Getting application errors trying to look at some secret tools of ours for a few minutes. That really felt like the forums we're about to fall over completely.

Imagine waking up one day and Facepunch is suddenly gone without notice.
