It was actually pretty uncommon for optimistic to be used as gaybow on Oldpunch, even though I love that usage of it. I liked Optimistic because it was a good rating for people having very generous predictions of the future and it's pretty positive.
Zing can stay dead for all I care.
Yeah, well, you're a cupcake...
Glad we removed the gaybow for the totally heteronormative cupcake. That's not really a solid defense.
I wish
Just like saying it wasn't use for indicating optimistic posts.
I always got rated rainbows in the Pictures of You thread.
What would end up happening is people either posting simply things like "-snip- " because they don't have anything they want to add (only adding an empty post to be able to rate) or posts would get far, far less ratings, neither of which seem like they accomplish anything.
So in order to use ratings, a system specifically made to avoid unnecessary posts that clutter up threads, you suggest posting, which clutter up the thread.
There might be a hole in this plan.
What if we bring back rainbow, but only a bot trained on pictures of gay men will be allowed to use it?
I liked the rainbows, they look colourful and make me feel warm on the inside.
y-yeah that's the only new thing happening haha 😰
holy shit nigga where have you been
Wait a minute...I know that face anywhere!
It could only be...

I must be misremembering, wouldn't be surprised exactly
How is it that Facepunch has been operating for over a decade with ratings and now all of the sudden they are becoming an issue?
Ratings used to be anonymous. It worked fine.
No ratings in news and politics is something that was done before as well - and it worked fine and made sense especially regarding politics because it promoted constructive discussion.
So I don't really know how "it's just a test, we'll see how it goes" when the forum used to be like this for years.
A compromise: make the icing on the cupcake rainbow-colored. Now it's both cute and optimistic. Problem solved.
Hey. I guess I joined at the wrong time. This forum software looks nice too.
i mean, you can keep using this while it's up and make a knockout account in the meantime
Yeah I tried knockout. Avatar images are in webp format and iPad safari doesn’t support webp so that site is a no go for me until they use a less discriminatory image format.
Welcome to the forums! Have a complementary diamond.
Plus they have a giant you’re gonna get banned message when creating new threads. That’s the second turnoff.
just like the good old times tho
So it seems I have to use iOS Puffin in order to use the new site fully but it doesn’t even let me upload an avatar so yeah.
The "You're Gonna Get Banned" is just a warning for people who are just mindlessly posting without reading the rules or if something has already been posted. Hell most of the times you won't even get banned unless you post something incredibly dumb/pointless.
Sorry for having to hijack this subject a bit, but have we not discussed on being more... positive about "bans are warnings" signs?
I doubt I’ll ever post there cause I can’t really use my PC at the moment so all the user pictures there just don’t show up on my iPad. It’s really disorienting.
That's... pretty dumb. WebP isn't really a widely adopted standard yet, what's wrong with PNG for now??
I don’t know. Any insight on why you guys chose webp, @Flak⠀ ?
Inacio is the one you should be asking but the answer is basically.
Webp is an image format designed for the web, its compression is unmatched to anything else available and the entire focus of knockout was to make it as light and least resource intensive as possible.
Webp was introduced 10 years and has been adapted by every mainstream modern browser, the issue with Safari is that its running webkit from years ago still and Apple refuses to update its capability it to modern standards.
It doesn't even decode webm's using hardware for fucks sake, its all software based and it took them forever to even support webm, they've only just added support last month, something which other browsers have had for over 5 years now.
To add to this, Android's stock web browser, since Android 4, has supported Webp, the blame is entirely on Apple, even Edge pre-chrome supports webp and has for the last 2 years.
I will admit a fallback would be nice, but when the entire focus is to utilise modern web technology to keep things as small and minimal as possible, there are times where compromises have to be made.
Basically, stop using a browser that refuses to follow web standards, Safari is hugely outdated when it comes to what it supports and its all down to Apple.
Hey I haven't been able to access knockout over the last view days, is it just me? Any ideas?
