banning for ratings are dumb. Even for serial raters.
Everybody needs to stop being so offended by everything. Ratings will not hurt you, they are little pixels, don't read into them so much. JFC My entire point since the first post is that if people are gonna bitch about ratings then we might as well discuss the linked thread since rating winner or funny for that thread (at least in my mind) comes off as "lol fuck cops" (my corner of the world has a lot of this sentiment) which sounds an awful lot like the winner / funny people from the trans harassment thread (I can't remember what the thread was about more than that) who in turn came off as saying "lol fuck trans people". Obviously it didn't present itself to me that you'd be rating funny and/or winner because "wow the FBI is bad at security". I've been here 7 years and learned a long while ago that caring about ratings is usually a piss poor idea but in this case an exception on the assumption that the ratings debacle was still up for discussion. In particular I made an exception because I felt like the rating stuff was probably going to fly under the radar in the cop doxx thread*. None of this as stated earlier would even be a problem if the previous discussion on this came to a conclusion that was carved in stone in something like a big nice rules thread which for whatever reason we can't have. * I cared a good bit about said topic as I've got a bit of kin who could be potentially tied up in that. TL:DR: Believe it or not I share your ratings sentiment and don't usually think it's something ban worthy regardless of how much of an ass I think the rate-r in question is.
What did Cureless bring to the site?
Nothing, but neither does 95% of this forum. It's a rating.
Are you here to have a discussion or just repeat "it's a rating, it's an icon, it's a bunch of pixels" ad nauseum? Again, if ratings don't matter, let's remove them. I guaran-fucking-tee you that the community will get together to tell you extensively, and in great detail, how much they matter. I guess they mean things, but not when bigotry's involved? Then they just... stop functioning for the purpose they're literally designed around i.e. sharing your opinion?
They don't have to, though. It's just Cureless brought a lot of negative contributions, in the face of little to no neutral or positive ones. What's the upside to harboring terrorist sympathizers, exactly?
Fact is that you can say "this forum isn't your after-school pet project!!" and "stop caring!!" for literally every ban reason we have. We're curating content every day, like we have been since FP's creation. Personally I've always enjoyed that this site has standards, and that's all this is. Also, funny that you have to discard my question instead of answering it, while displaying the exact same hypocrisy it points out
All forum discussion in welcome here. If you're not interested, you don't have to read it.

Not to be a bummer, but does anyone have that video of Facepunch people leaving over the footage of Thor: Ragnarok?
would i be correct in assuming the new troll using tommy in his name is that old user timtimtommy? at what point is a user pathetic enough to justify ip bans
We don't have IP bans.
Unfortunately we do have shadowbans. I know this because I am shadowbanned. No one else can see my posts, I just keep doing it out of habit.
Why does this thread say it has one new post when no one posted? Weird. Say, did any of you hear about this Mort Strudel guy?
One of my last acts as moderator was to send him to the shadow realm as far as I remember. Dunno what he's doing these days.
Old forum did. I of all people would know. Thankfully, new forum = new start. Also is it just me or are the forums really struggling to load as of late? Are the forums finally dying?
No, you just have bad internet.
Nah, every other site loads just fine. I've got high speed unlim. bandwidth internet. Facepunch struggles. Nothing else does.
Do you have custom CSS? There was a user mod here for the site which broke or something, which weirdly enough caused clients to take a long time to load pages (probably a connection timeout)
High speed and no bandwidth cap means nothing. I have issues with certain sites, including Facepunch, quite often and it's my ISP (CenturyLink) being total garbage 90% of the time. The servers that CenturyLink's network routes through to connect to Facepunch and a few other sites go down all the time because CenturyLink is quite possibly the biggest pile of trash I've ever seen. And when that happens I can use the internet perfectly fine for other sites but I get literal dial-up speeds and 500+ms ping times to those specific sites that have issues. Like Karmah said though, check your custom CSS stuff first to be sure. That often causes the page to load slow when there's issues there.
is this thread stuck on the first page if you try to go to the latest one, even manually entering it into the URL bar? or am i just going insane
Music Chat v. Lets talk about music again works up til page 26. someone probably deleted their account, which brings posts back several pages
I do have custom user css but it's routed through my own site.
Open up dev tools Network. Disable cache and reset. You'll find out what is the slowest to load, your website or FP.
The forums feel really slow these days, back in the day you could just refresh and have tons of new posts and threads. It's quite noticeable that the user activity is dwindeling which is a shame. Or perhaps I have to much time at work to browse this site.
It feels pretty zippy but not as zippy as knockout. I know plenty of websites that are much slower than the FP forums.
it's not slow? https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1733/5a072b05-f29b-4bdc-8e9c-95b2e8097c50/image.png
