My fingers are really itching to hoist my engine out of the car and replace the rear main seal or whatever else is leaking, however I have never taken an engine out before. It brings me the question; how should I proceed with this? What should I be careful of when I try to hoist it out, and what are the easier ways to do this? And since I'll be taking it out anyway, what else should I look into replacing on an engine of a car built in 1999 and has 206,000 km (128,002 miles) put into it? I was thinking about replacing the clutch anyway in case it got contaminated by the oil leak after all. Although it still performs perfectly fine except for the pedal being a bit stiff to my liking, but that might just be how the car is by design since I got used to my parents' wagon with its silky smooth clutch.
If you're pulling the engine you may as well replace all the gaskets and stuff. It's probably the Audi born philosophy of it in me that says that but there's some wisdom in it. If you replace all the gaskets now you won't be pulling the engine again for probably the life of the car.
Looking to finally sell my little fiesta and buy an MR2 SW20 sometime this year. I saw one while browsing eBay for random cheapish cars a few months back and fell in love. Then I became extremely sad to learn we never got a turbo in the UK, but I suppose that makes them all relatively cheap, there seems to be no end of red GT T-Bars for around £2k, but I'll wait for a black one.
I've got a rather sizeable paint chip down to the metal on my 2007 Ford Taurus in windveil blue metallic, want to get that patched up before any rust starts to form. Any recommendations on touch-up paint suppliers?
Most big name stores like advance Auto, autozone, etc, sell touch up paints. Just find your color, or something close, slap it on, and put on some sealer.
Touch Up Paint and accessories | AutomotiveTouchup These guys without a doubt. I've painted an entire bumper using just their paint / primer and it went fantastic.
They sent me a faulty can once. I sent them an email about it and I received an extra can a couple of days later, no questions asked. They're pretty good.
You guys remember my Bimmer? Yeah... it's engine is seized, I'm getting rid of it by the end of the week. Auf wiedersehen. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/774/a3d9b537-a6b1-4d8b-bfc7-a32e137a710b/IMG_20190430_140600.jpg
w h a t ?
Just spun a 360 on the highway in to work this morning because it was fucking snowing heavy again after a big night of rain and snow. I hit a really slick spot when crossing onto a bridge and I think that's what did it. Luckily I was the only person on the road except for this truck behind me so the risks were pretty low other than to my own car and life. I was even slowed down to 45 since the speed limit was 80 and I figured that was more reasonable. God was I wrong. Roads were even plowed too so fuck me I guess. If there's ever a fucking case for learning to drive from a professional instructor and school instead of letting your parents or whatever teach you that's the fucking case right there because I honestly believe if it wasn't for me remaining calm and knowing what to do in the situation, with hours of practice, I'd probably be injured or dead and have a totaled car right now.
Water pump went kaput.
A couple of days ago, an 8P A3 just like mine showed up at the same place we got my mom's 8L A3 The difference? It's S Line fully loaded. FULLY LOADED. And fully loaded with EVERYTHING I wanted. I got so fucking mad and sad at the same time, I just wanted to plow my car into a phone pole. At least it has 100.000km more than mine when I got it, yay...
Soooo... How does that lock up the engine?

Someone wasn't paying attention to the temp gauge
Ah fuck I misread it as fuel pump and was extremely confused. Anyway, I snagged some of the grease we use at work for the 5th wheels on trucks, and let me tell you this shit is extra thicc, super tacky, and never, ever comes off of whatever you get it on. Including skin. I dunno what I'm gonna use it for, but this shit is cool.
Use it to keep the bolts under your car from rusting, or at least that's what I'd use it for on my new Jetta.
This thing is a bitch to get in place properly, jesus. https://i.imgur.com/sI2NPIk.jpg This is an aftermarket boot, while the OEM part can slip the seal on the right onto the rack without no problems usually. This one however puts a hell of a fight. The only way I can get it on is by steering all the way to the right so the rod gets pulled in and compresses the boot as well. However, that causes the folds to move over the seal which makes it really hard for me to either put up a cable tie or the crappy clamp that barely fits on. Once you steer to the left again to try and get the folds out of the way, the whole seal slips off with a loud "FWOOMP" that I can hear from inside the cabin.
My friends are really into Hoonigan on youtube... and I just don't get it. The cars they show off sometimes are really cool but their overall content and creative style is dogshit. Does anyone else feel the same way, or is there something from them I'm missing or what?
It's the Dude Perfect of car shows. Technically high quality content with the worst presentation and production style.
they're a bunch of stance kids who had to branch out to stay alive when stance died
I don't know what this means but I'll assume it's bad? vv
They annoy the shit out of me but they're popular with irritating dudebros the world around
I like them because they do unique stuff and show unique stuff. They are kind of annoying, which is why I only watch the videos they out out with the guys I like, like Danger Dan and his show, garage garage. He's a very, very good fabricator and do as much if the memery as the other guys. Nads is also a really knowledgeable guy who doesn't do much memery either. However Hert, Brad, and all the other posers need to fuck off because they drag the show down.
Garage Garage and Scumbag Labs are probably the most fun content, SBL can get kinda dumb though. They get to do a lot of neat stuff cause they have big money behind them

I like the cars and the stunts are cool and all, but I think its more about the raw power the cars convey, that animosity, the brutality they shout out of their mechanical bits and pieces. The people behind them tend to ruin everything. Be it a bunch of posers itching to go for a race with someone, or fanboys that get violent when you tell them their cars suck because they really do suck.

Hey so my used 4runner, probably sitting on the lot for a few months before I got it, has a slight shake at speed and also jerky braking. Flat spots on tires? It probably needs new ones anyway but damn they're expensive. Trying to think of what else it could be. Warped rotors would cause the jerky braking but not the speed wobble so I really hope it's not a double whammy. This thing was expensive enough as it is.
Speed wobble could just be wheel balance.
