Automotive Addicts V8 pt. IV: We're not changing until V12 because engine meme

Cheap bastard. You spent more money doing that, than fixing what was wrong, which was probably just an alignment.
I really don't get you kinds of people, you'll spend 200 dollars just to avoid spending 20.
It was an on-road/off-road car near the end of its life. I figured disposable tires were cheaper than fine suspension work that would probably be undone by my weekly trip to an OHV area.
Was only five bucks to get the tires flipped. $10 every three or four months with $20-$40 pair of used tires every eight months or so seems ok to me?
I've had a couple rear tires explode on the freeway.
So saving money is more important than the lives of other people? No matter how great/skillful of a driver you are, consciously choosing to drive a vehicle that is a hazard on public roadways is pure negligence on your part. If anyone had been injured or killed, the only person to blame would have been you.
I drove on a bald tire on my S10 and it caused me to not be able to stop in time and total a Nissan Altima, that was my fuck up and I'm beyond grateful I didn't kill anyone.
Note "rear tires", no loss of control from failure.
Just exit the freeway and put the spare on.
I always used un-punctured tires on the front.
They tended to fail because I was always getting punctures from nails and screws at the OHV area.
People would bring wooden stands for target shooting and shoot them to pieces leaving the nails and screws.
Any punctured tires get rotated to the back.
dude, we are talking about TYRES
you do NOT fuck with tyres
and this is coming from a crazy motherfucker that does some stupid shit
Since we're all admitting doing dumb shit.
I'm probably a fucking cunt for this, but I run a straigt pipe on my duke 790.
It's a $15 copy of an akrapovic R6 exhaust, on a bike for $15k, and it's loud and obnoxious. It spits out flames quickshifting hard.
But people stopped tailgaging me, out of 1k km without and 500km with, the difference is huge.
I don't think loud pipes will help any direction but backwards, but they sure as fuck helped.
People like you are why I think the US needs to invest heavily in infrastructure and clamp down waaay harder on motorist privileges. And I say this as someone who absolutely loves cars and driving nice ones. You're a danger to your self and others, you shouldn't be driving.
People like you are why I wish states had tighter inspections. I love cars, love motorcycles, but that shit has to be safe, not just for you, but everyone around you. You willingly, knowingly, drove a dangerous car on the freeway because you're cheap.
Honestly, being so willfully ignorant and harmful should cost you your license.
Woah, everyone is freaking out.
Lots of old cars/trucks have uneven tire wear.
Used tires are legal to buy and sell as are plug kits for repairing punctures.
Of course driving on repaired/used tires has more risk than un-punctured/new tires, but if it was SO DANGEROUS used tires/plugs wouldn't be sold would they?
Vibration. If the vehicle thumps or vibrates heavily, it may be a sign that one of the tires has gone flat. With a rear tire, that may be the only sign you get.
Failed rear tires do not cause loss of control.
I sure am glad I share the road with people like you.
When a bunch of people whose lives revolve around cars are telling you not to do something with your car you probably shouldn't do it. Tires and brakes are the two parts of your car that you should not take chances with. Repairing a tire is one thing but what you're describing is flat out stupid.
They didn't fail from tread wear, they failed from a combination of punctures and shitty roads. I wouldn't run a bald tire.
You can't expect people to replace every punctured tire immediately?
Ideally the roads/freeways wouldn't have potholes and people wouldn't litter tire hazards at OHV areas.
It just seems to me every one here is making assumptions or just has no experiance with the realities of offloading?
New off-road tires are expensive, and cheap used pairs can be hard to find.
You'd run badly & unevenly worn tires with multiple old punctures & ghetto patches - which is worse than running bald tires.
Nobody is making assumptions, you said it yourself. If you can't afford decent fucking tires you shouldn't be playing in the dirt.
My dad has done thousands of km worth of offroading all over australia in varied terrains on all sorts of roads over the last 15+ yrs and he hasn't had a tyre explode because he isn't a cheapskate. I've gone with him on trips plenty of times and I recently got a 4x4 of my own, granted it's only a Jimny with 28in wheels, but even those were expensive. So I'm well aware of how expensive offroading can be.
If you can't afford to do it safely and properly you shouldn't do it at all.
What really blows my mind is you've personally lived through multiple dangerous outcomes of this and thought "hm not dangerous enough to matter". It's not like you're just blindly following some stupid lifehack advice, you've actually had tires explode (a dangerous situation no matter which tire goes!!!!! your vehicle has tires for a reason!!!!!) as a result of this practice and STILL YOU'RE JUST LIKE NAH WHATEVER. Fuck
JUST FUCKING FIX YOUR CAR AND BUY SOME TIRES FOR FUCKS SAKE.
YOU ARENT SMART
YOU ARENT SAVING MONEY
YOURE JUST AN ASSHOLE.
JUST SPEND 100 BUCKS ON AN ALIGNMENT JESUS CHRIST
All four of their tires where like this. Both the grandpa driving the car, and what I assumed to be his grandson argued with us because we wouldn't put another patch in it, so they drove off.
They came back on the back of a truck 25 minutes or so later, because the tire had lost all the air in it. They argued with us about the price, and didn't want us to touch any of the other tires. They bought the cheapest tire, and tried to steal the car out of the lot before paying for it. Then spent another 30 minutes arguing with us about the whole 40 dollars they had to spend on the tire. It was fucking absurd.
On my post about getting out of the auto industry THIS is the kind of shit I was talking about, and the guy were all berating for being a dumbass.
Auto Industry is fucking insane. I hated it.
One time I watched a woman dump an entire bottle of anti-freeze into her gas tank after being told not to. Because we couldn't service her vehicle and "She knew what she was doing."
One time we had been accused by an old lady of stealing the headlights, not just the bulb, but the entire headlights out of her grand-daughters car.
Had a lady leave our shop, and then the next morning told us there was a problem with her car and we needed to fix it. Long story short? Bird somehow got stuck in the fucking throttle-body.
Had one guy come in for a set of four tires. He told us just to dig around and find his lug-nut key. Bottle and shotglass in the center console. A handful of mini liquor bottles in the dash console. Another full bottle and shotglass in the glovebox. Another bottle of jim underneath his seat. ANOTHER bottle underneath the passenger seat. Checked in the trunk where his spare would be? No spare. Just bottles of Fireball.
This isn't including all the nasty ass cars filled full of old food, drugs or weird shit like rubber fist either.
I'd run tires with the belts showing before tires with an egg in the sidewall
Fix your fucking tires @SomeENG . You're not in control of critical failures. You're only lucky if nothing happens to anyone around you when it will go wrong.

I am also more likely to die of X, yet I could die of Y
I seriously stop listening when people come up with statistics, because life doesn't gives a shit about statistics and can throw curve balls as much as it wants. One of them apparently being you and your tyres.
A good example is me, never thinking I'd be in any low speed crashes and thinking my speeding would get me in extremely hot trouble, and yet, only had two accidents below 50km/h, same for my mom, and have dodged two pile ups by inches, both at low speeds aswell.
Surprise surprise, the accidents I had, were all due to having a bad car that would skid in the rain.
Used tyres are legal up to a limit.
Tyre shops WILL sell you some frankenstein level of tyres because they don't give a fuck and expect you to drive at 10 mph. Quick buck, and if shit happens, its the driver who's gonna get assfucked.
I don’t know why the fuck you people are on my ass for playing Russian Roulette! I’ve done it 5 times now and I’m fine.
I finally changed the tires on my "new" car. From a glance they looked pretty good but I took a closer look and turns out they were fucking 14 years old.
I know they aren't much, but I love the way these new tires look.

My Jimny failed inspection, so it's off the road while I get the kingpin bearings and a wheel bearing replaced on the passenger side. I also got failed for having a bald tire, so I fitted my spare while I took the other wheel to the the tire shop. I think either me or a previous owner must've backed into something with the spare wheel, because as it turns out, the rim is pretty bent up.
I suppose it's a good thing I've never actually tried to use it.

What kind of car is that exactly?
Went to Rally de Portugal today what an event , what a crowd, what amazing machines.
I sat there baking in the sun for 6 hours had a blast with friends and strangers it's great to be able to share a passion with the people right next to you even if you don't know who they are, a lot of spanish people caught me off guard.
This was my first time watching a gravel rally i thought I was prepared for the dust with my sunglasses and cloth mask, I wasnt. The cars kept throwing loose gravel everywhere, Ogier threw a rock at the back of my head so that was nice.
What amazing machines and what amazing drivers, when someone was really giving it their all the crowd went nut, it was such a joy to watch.

It's a 68 Mercury Cougar, runs well but it's a bit of project right now.

That's siiiick. Cougars are so underappreciated. Looks a lot like the one I nearly bought a few years ago, same year + color + vinyl combo.
