Thanks! I get compliments calling it an Impala a lot lol. It needs a lot of work, especially interior wise but I love my car.

Wow, an original 68 cougar that isn't rusted to shit and still has its vinyl top??? color me fucken interested, lets see some more pics pls.
Cougars are mustangs for people who actually like cars.
Good stuff.
Thanks! I don't take too many pictures of my car, I feel awkward in public doing it, especially when I'm surrounded by camaros and challengers, but here's what I have.

I did take a lot of interior pictures though, just because of how fucked it was when I bought it.

The car was sitting in Florida for 20 years and in California for at least 20 so I'm guessing that's where all this crustacean shit came from.

If anyone has any ideas on how to get that shit off, it would be much appreciated. I'm gonna replace the parts I can but some areas that have crustacean I can't replace.

This is the interior now, definitely still needs a lot of work. I know I should've replaced the dashpad before getting a radio, but I hated driving with out music (Also the radio has a nice little Cougar emblem on it ).
Some asshole unplugged a sparkplug when I was in class and when I started the car like that it fucked a ton of shit up.
The money I saved for working on the interior had to then go into getting a new starter, getting the timing fixed, and a bunch of other shit.

I was just glad I didn't have to replace the engine entirely I would've broke down crying if I had to
Dont be embarrassed. What you have is something special. Camaros, mustangs, whatever, are a dime-a-dozen. First gen cougars like yours are rare as fuck, especially one in such good condition.
Be proud of that thing, fuck what everyone else says. That IS something to be proud of, my dude.
Goddamn man, make no apologies. That car is beautiful. I'd take a nice Cougar before almost any Camaro or Mustang. Sounds great, too. The only reason the Cougar is obscure now is it was nice and expensive back then and owners treasured them even when the Camaro and Mustang became cheap and shitty enough to be affordable to the high school kids who put them on a pedestal now.
Crusty barnacles are weird, I've never seen that before. Probably I would chip them off with a sharp knife and replate the affected parts. It really is in great shape otherwise.
Thanks, I don't think I ever want a different car from that era, I love my Cougar. And I think it's less me being embarrassed about my car, and more just how much of a prejudice I have towards the way most "car guys" are in my area. Especially the modern muscle car crowd (Guys like cubeman didn't help their stigma either lol).
Every time I'm out driving my Cougar I always get at least one guy in a challenger or mustang revving their engine and taunting me into racing them. I'm sure it's an unpopular opinion but I have a small hatred for (not everyone) the modern mustang/camaro/challenger crowd, and I try really hard not to be associated with them lol. Especially the ones like cubeman and they're a lot of them at my college.
But thanks all I do really love my car and its nice to get compliments on it!
Well what you should do is save up some cash and turn ol' girl into a sleeper. It won't take much to wake up that old boat-anchor engine it comes with. Cam, carb, headers, and you're already looking at 300+ hp, which for a car that "light" makes it feel like a rocket.
Mustangs are just a really good tiny penis advertisement.
A lot has been done under the hood by the previous-previous owner that I'm still trying to work out the details for. When I was buying her I was expecting a 289 in there but turns out it's a rebuilt 302 4 barrel from the mid-80s. My priorities for the car right now is just to get the handling better (It needs a tune up and it drags to the right), and then cleaning up the interior, and after that working on the performance.

Also thought you guys might want to see this car, I saw it at a car show in Arizona and it was just called "The Wedge".

The Edelbrock carb could 100% do with a deep clean and a rebuild. A 302 is a pretty sporty engine, but I'm not a huge ford guy so that's above my pay-grade.
And since it is a dressed up mustang, your options for suspension is ENDLESS. If it was mine, I'd upgrade all the bushings to polyurethane, put some adjustable coilovers on it, some bigger, modern brakes on it, maybe some wider wheels too, but keep the hubcaps.
These are all things that don't really hurt the collectability and value of the car... If you do it right. Anything non-reverseable is a no-go for something that rare, but it is worth doing all these quality of life things to it, since I assume it's daily driven, and also to extend the life of the car. There's no reason to keep 50 some-odd year old suspension and brakes on the car.
Yeah I discover new things about what's going on under the hood almost every time I pop it, I wish there more documentation on what was done. Right now my priority is just making sure everything under the hood is squared away and good to go.
So if the engine is from 1994 and assuming it was a new crate engine from Ford, you had a blistering... 195 hp. That is, before all the wear and tear, and a probably very out of tune and tired carb.
It doesn't even matter if the original engine blew a rod out the side, in 1994 there was soooo many better options, why would someone put a literal boat anchor of an engine into a really nice car....
302s make plenty of power what
The page I found on a Ford forum broke it down, and a 302 in 1994 coupled to an auto trans made 195hp.
Stock in a pickup truck yes. Crate engine intended for a muscle car no. Ford's performance 302 crate engines made (even then) 300+ hp before aftermarket upgrades and tuning.
I went over all the paper work again, and it's actually an HO 302 from 94. I did some research and a 5.0L HO V8 should be putting out about 240hp. Combine that with the edelbrock carb & manifold I'm guessing about 250hp.

Gamer its almost time.
ugh, seeing v70-s makes me feel pain rn.
Had the handbrake working last year, now when the inspection time is coming the handbrake stopped working, bottom shoe had the pad gone. Tried to put it together and realized that the shoe guide spring? Return spring? idk. didn't have corresponding brackets left on the backing plate, they rusted away in my hand. This is after changing the the rear shock that actually wasn't that bad once I understood how to jack the spindle down to get it out of the way.
Oh shit you too? Fucking parking brake disintegrated during a rear brake job on me. All my shocks went on mine simultaneously and p quickly annihilated my tires. She's a bitchy thing but mmmmmmm the purr of that 5 pot.
So assuming RZR's Can-Am's and 4 wheelers count. Just got back from SE Kentucky a couple days ago spent a week trail riding/mudding/other forms of redneck debauchery. only almost died once this time after figuring out a honda foreman 400 does not have enough oomph to hit the "jump hill" *IE a 55ish degree slope with a water bar at the top* found out you can bear crawl real fucking fast down it given proper motivation though lol

I'm trying to get a hold of the video of the gray/green maverick in the first picture hooked to a CJ-5 in what's affectionately known as the tank trap round there
@Slithers I'm here man look for me in the blue V70 by the yellow 850 with a giant flag.
Changed my oil, spark plugs and oil filter, but I strongly doubt that worn spark plugs should appear corroded and crusty like this. My thought is that this is a byproduct from the fact that my engine was running starving for oil for god knows how long as I was unknowingly leaking oil.

So I totaled my 2007 Volvo S60 this past Sunday, and today as I was cleaning out the car it really hit me how much I've been through with it. It was my first car, I learned to drive in it, and I've visited so many places with it. I basically lived more than half my life with it. I dunno, I think most people would think it's silly to get so emotionally attached to a car, but I can't help it...
nah those look fine, just old
looks fine to me. just overdue for replacement
I had the same feelings when my sister totaled the family Ford Freestyle a few years back. I did so many fun and stupid things in that car. It's like a pet or something dying.
Won an award at eEurofest somehow after the car puked all of the power steering fluid out on the autocross.
