So what's the point of sensenationlist headlines if we cant even discuss or debate anymore. It's becoming 4chan level of shitposting. Look at this dumpster fire thread: 'Actually a male' Want to debate or discuss what's the article about? Nope get called a hateful bigot even if you didnt say anything against trans rights . Demand answer? Nope get epic mem3d lol. It's literally the same style of posting you would see on 4chan. A few years ago mods would ban these idiots for shitposting and we would have paragraphs of intellectualism proving me why I'm wrong or why their right etc. Facepunch quality in posting has downgraded hard due to a lack of moderation that there used to be to keep discussion civil. Not just in that thread I mean in general. Facepunch is seriously losing that intellectual charm and is getting replace by meme dudebro shit. I know this place ain't going to last long but can we keep some dignity eh? Knockout will just get infected by this shit if you keep it festering.

You can make a thread where you offer a "bounty" in the form of a coin reward to whoever gives the "correct" answer. For example, if you're looking for a game you had forgotten the name of, you might offer up 100 coins to motivate people to bother helping you. When someone finds your answer, you select their post as the right answer.

i don't usually complain about this sort of thing, but how has @27X not been permabanned yet? he's had multiple month long bans spanning back to oldpunch, and he seems to get banned every other day for flaming or otherwise being a threadshitting dick nipple apropos of nothing. but despite pretty much every one of those bans citing his history, all the mods seem weirdly hesitant to escalate the ban length over time like they would for any other user? what's the dealio? i'm like not like BAN HE HE UPSET ME but he's been one step away from a perma for like half a decade at this point

I can only see the newpunch ban history, sadly - the oldpunch ban history doesn't carry over. That said. I'm not going to extend his ban per request. If he keeps getting banned, he'll get the month, then the perma.

Also keep up the good work cleaning up the forums of chronic shitposters. Most of the recent bans I've seen, like coldroll, ASparkle, Ak'z, and 27X are all people who constantly shit up every thread they unfortunately find their ways into with excessive strawmen, ad hominems, citationless claims, and overall bad-faith arguing. It isn't a matter of their opinions or their politics. There are plenty of people on these forums who have opinions and politics similar to them. It's a matter of them being shitheels who clutter the forums with their constant barrage of verbal debris. Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say.

I don't consider dragging threads out into 4+ pages of one person constantly saying the same asinine, unfounded claims over and over again, with a half-dozen other people constantly telling them to cite their sources and/or constantly explaining the same concept in the simple possible terms to be engagement worth preserving. These people have all shown, over literal years of having the same exact conversations again and again, that they have absolutely zero intention of ever educating themselves in either the subjects they constantly pontificate over or how to have an intelligent, civilized debate. Bar a few exceptions, most of which I have seen the moderators personally apologize for, I personally haven't seen any unjustified bans. If anything, I think the mods have been too lenient, but then that may come from the fact I first joined and was most active in the 2005-2007 era of the forums, where the rules are extremely strictly enforced. I felt that sting personally a few times, and I'm damn glad for it, because those bans helped make me into a better debater and a better person. Personally, I think your fears are unfounded.

Bad posters come and go. Never in short supply. Continually romanticized, while good posters forgotten.

Being part of the conversation is one thing. Being shitheads who throw bad faith arguments, strawmen, trolling, flaming, et al around, no that's not being part of the conversation.

The other day I was looking at my posts from 10 years ago. I didn't realise I had changed so much since then, I'm a little embarrassed about the quality of those posts. I happened to see some other, more notorious posters who may or may not have been banned recently and they posted exactly the same then as they do now. I'm not saying people need to change drastically in 10 years, I'm just saying if they've been shitposting for a solid decade, or more, they've used up their chances.

For reference Postal and some of the oldies(granted more sensible) were also his age. Think we've had our edgy phase but I do at least remember that Hezzy said to me once that we have to tender what we write. Deffo embarrassing and I agree the shit Sosig said was pretty bad but I have seen worse. It was also garry's decision to mod Sosig iirc. Hezzy just overrode a garry decision so guess who's now playing with fire. I have to agree that I do too also believe that the shit was said absolutely doesn't fit the team's vision. Like I'm actually on fire. I have to disagree that Sosig got 0 time to defend himself. If the dude got any chance to defend himself and showed that it was just edgy shitposting and didn't mean to offend with 0 intent of causing this controversy. Things probably could have been swept under the bridge like water and we'd be over this. I will say additionally and this is my own personal preference. Just send a mod this information vs public call out on the forums. That could have gotten very messy and I'm really glad it didn't and I thank both you Qbetex and Hezzy and everyone else but internal discussion+reporting may have given Sosig a chance he didn't have.

Sosig had a few unacceptable views, but that doesnt warrant him being demodded out of the blue because of it. Especially not when he did give good service and never actually made bad moderating decisions, or if he did, didnt make that many. As far as im concerned he should have been given a chance to explain himself, or at least been given only a warning. I don't see why he had to be demoted because of those views, to be honest they weren't even that bad compared to certain other specimens who are long gone now. In personal conversations i've had with him he seemed reasonably willing enough to accept that perhaps what I said had some merit to it as well, and maybe he needed to expand his worldview a bit. For christ's sake he isnt even that old, he's much younger than I am and I'm reasonably sure a lot of us hadn't entirely solidified our worldviews completely at that age. And Qbe, I kinda disagree that he had his chance, a few other mods who were demoted were given warnings or even bans before they lost their positions. Sosig had no such benefit, especially when you consider worse mods than him did get at least that much. If he still hadn't changed then he could have been demoted, but demoting him immediately for something like this is really rather harsh considering his good service record.

If a man is willing to deal with Rust kiddies and Gmod issues and fight the horde, with virtually no past issues. He deserves a fair trial.
