You expect someone who barely gives a shit about the forums as it is to address a moderation issue? Sure.
I believe hezzy added me originally to FP. Recently garry allowed me to moderate the Rust discord. To be completely honest Axel you make me out to be the satan of FP. You have clearly not seen my work helping the Rustlings, not to mention how active I try to be
Bingo. I can only imagine him saying "Get Over It"
Sosig was added by Hezzy, not Garry. Aside from Hezzy no one on the current mod team was put there by Garry. As stated above we all discussed the situation in mod chat and put it to a vote. This situation wasn't taken lightly and there was a lot of discussion around the matter. As of now you already know what came of our decision, and we stand behind it.
probably a minority but the whole sosig and hezzy leaving thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth about the future- I can respect second chances if it makes sense I just can’t help but be unhappy to see hezzy leave cause of this. I’ll try to be optimistic tho
I've never seen Sosig's moderation be anything but unbiased. So what if he did some shitposts on discord, who hasn't? He's been nothing but resourceful and respectful as a moderator. Now, I'm not going to name any names, but if you want to get onto someone for bias, there are a few options when it comes to actual moderation.
Yeah. Your point? TBH I don't really have an issue with you personally as much as I've had an issue with FP moderation never really enforcing any kind of standards whatsoever. It was already a glaring issue under the old mods, and it doesn't look like it's gonna be any better under the new ones.
Reminder because most of us THOUGHT garry made him mod, and not hezzy. Sosig was not given a veteran mod to look after him, or the usual mod training. He turned out pretty alright. Could have been another maxofs2d or *name your favorite psycho moderator* Shendow was our real kick in the nuts, we gave them a chance when they seemingly ignored us and the inquiries in mod chat. Sosig was complete opposite and was eager to learn his mistakes.
oh I was wondering what happened. Kinda fell off the face of the earth and I was never paying attention to begin with
Shendow pretty much pulled a dragon, vanished. Please come back dragon.

You overestimate our powers.
What happened to Killuah, he's been around for long enough to be considered a respectable user no? I guess not. Not questioning the ban itself just wondering if anyone has any context to the post he made.
Not going to get involved with the rest of what's goingon. The forums were first opened at the end of November/start of December 2004, Garry's join date is the 11th of September 2001 as a 911 reference.
Can confirm. It has been like that for as long as I can remember. iirc he changed it to that when he first moved the forums to vBulletin from the old tan forum, not many people left who remember the old forum....
It was actually later on, done in one of the vB upgrades, he still had his original join date after the move from the phpbb forum to vB.
Yeah I remember seeing Garry's original join date, but I never saw the 04 forums. Are there any screenshots or archives of it? It's like the one piece of FP history I haven't seen
I remember seeing someone posted them ages ago on old punch. I’m sure someone will have it archived.
You can have the vB4 Forums thread about Mark Laidlaw's Epistle Three here
I've looked for traces of the old '04 forums and I'm sad to say there is pretty much no trace of them left. Even on the few pages of the wayback machine I could find everything was either broken or basically gone. It's main distinctive features were that it was very basic, a tan colour, and the "BANNED" avatar was a green graffiti styled font. Oh, and every ban was permanent.
the best we probably have is screenshots. Garry has one on his blog https://garry.tv/2018/01/06/forum-history/
I don't think this is how it literally looked like in 2004 (the forums were opened December 2004 iirc) but this is what Facepunch looked like in the first quarter of 2005 https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58209/184a52d8-f446-44b8-a983-2f3d0da43e41/image.png
Are there statistics on how many Blue and Gold users there are? Given the ease of getting Gold now I feel like being Blue is the really elitism now.
Regarding people not being given time to explain themselves, due process, and dealing with situations where mods demand a user explain themselves or cite a source going forwards: I just want to make sure everyone is aware of this stat which is on everyone's page https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1383/7eda65ed-c20f-4c02-b74d-4f987d056c41/image.png I think people and mods should be checking that bit of info more often. If they post and leave, and two hours later you demand them to cite a source or explain themselves, you should really check this stat and take it into account. This will tell you if they have even been on to see the post/demand that you made of them. If it shows that they haven't been on in over a day, then it doesn't make sense to ban them over a "cite your sources within 24hr or be banned" post because they wouldn't even be aware of demand. I use the citing sources example, but it could be anything time sensitive.
Don't make a post that deems a "Cite your sources" response if you don't plan on backing it up. That only gets used in PD topics, where you are expected to support your claims. If you don't come back to check within 24 hours, then a) you probably won't be back during the length of your ban to even notice, or b) you'll learn what is required of PD posting.
That was just an example case. My point is that no matter the case, putting someone on a time crunch like that and them not even knowing the time crunch exists feels like trial in absentia.
My point was if you're going to post something controversial enough in PD to get a mod to tell you to cite your sources, then fuck off for 24+ hours, you probably shouldn't have done it in the first place. You should have cited your sources to begin with, and you shouldn't have just posted and forgot about it. (Not "you", but whoever the case may be)
I enforce it everywhere. You can't just shitpost false facts and then expect to get away with it.
You can't just go into a thread about McDonald's laying off a lot of staff(this is an example btw) and claim that their patties are made out of horse meat or something holy you'd turn the threads attention away from the article to you and expect everyone to ask you for a reliable source. If you didn't provide that source good job on making the entire thread go off topic because you made one bold and bullshit claim and decided to be the asshole in the thread.
You know the green line under your name does this without needing to go to the user's page.
