The reason this isn't exactly right relates to what is said here.
The "Me and the boys" constituent isn't the subject of the main clause. It's the complement of a copular deixis that has been hidden. English allows for both object and subject pronouns to appear when this happens, for instance; If you knock on a friend's door and they say "Who is it?" without seeing you, you can reply with both "it's me" and "it is I". The former would be chosen for pragmatic reasons but they are both grammatical.
Allow this syntax tree to demonstrate what I mean. For the purposes of simplification, I have presented the "about to prepare for unforseen consequences" part as a relative clause rather than the adjective apposition thing that it truly is.
