I am currently shitting before going out
What does China and Russia have to do with someone possibly using the opportunity of an exodus to gain control in a community (at this point I’m in the car and writing this is delaying me) for impure reasons?
If anything this thread further shows the keys are moving to worse hands. If inacio is so spastic that simply saying a channel is being uptight prompts urging suicide and slurs, then justifies it unapologetically while calling them an asshole, why should anyone trust his judgement?
Like I said, when facepunch looked like it could fall, I also had the thought what if I took the opportunity brought a new forum on to become a high mod. I immediately recognized doing it for that reason is corrupt and wrong, regardless of me trusting myself to do right by this place I love.
Id much rather find common ground with Garry to keep it up and fix what we have. I don’t even mind how it is technologically atm. I’d sooner stay with the imperfect code and mods I like than risk a moderation I don’t trust for some tweaks.
At this point, I think it’s silly I said I’m uncertain about posting this because of the dissident being remembered by mods if we’re funneled to Knockout. Because I’d only be proven right by that scenario.
I don't know what's happening either. I just want to talk about videogames and look at funny pictures with people.
Someone hold me.
We're not asking for the mod team to be ran like a government administration. I personally couldn't care less if someone acted with a little edge or arrogance or whatever you would use to describe shitposting. Have your fun, be as weird as you want; the personality of mods is actually a good thing to me, because it makes the entire forum seem less officious and unwelcoming. But that's not what people are even complaining about. We're asking 'hey can you not deflect criticism by insulting people on discord? Hey, other mods, can you hold that person to account without wheeling out banal excuses as to why you won't? No? Oh...ok. Hey mods, can you be a bit more transparent instead of being as sporadic and capricious as a toddler? Hey mods, please stop changing your names all the time; we can't tell who most of you are. Hey mods, can you not lie to the community about your intentions? Hey mods, can you not throw each other under the bus like this is a playground whenever the spotlight becomes too harsh for you?'
There's a difference between wanting decency and wanting bureaucracy. It'd be appreciated if valid criticism wasn't interpreted as just flinging mud at mods because people are bored. Funnily enough, if the worst things about the mods was that they 'shitposted', there wouldn't be nearly half as much drama as there is, aside from the 'if mods can do it, why can't I?' point that gets raised every time a mod derails a thread. Drama and distrust haven't spawned solely because people have shitposted a bit too much; that much should be obvious.
Sgt. Doom was elected a few years ago, like a year or so after I became a mod which I think was in 13-14.
Yeah. Tudd was made mod to fuck with the community. An elected Tudd wouldn't be removed as quickly I expect. (on top of painting an honestly concerning image of the community itself). He wouldn't be modding in the somewhat controlled way he was. An election would pretty much mean free reign for him. Or others like him.
So, don’t shut down fp, change out some of the current mod staff, moderation election on a yearly basis to see who stays/goes, more moderator accountability?
This is the general opinion ?
so you’re saying you think it’s likely shitty mods would get elected despite the whole community being involved ?
That's putting a lot of distrust in the community, may I remind you the reason why Tudd remained within the community was because the mods you think are infalliable chose to keep him until it was made clear by his own stupidity that they were keeping him so he can fuck with the community? I remember quite well that everyone absolutely disliked him, and when it comes to voting people in or voting people out, he would've been voted out as quickly if not quicker, than when he was made a mod on April 1st
all this talk of heavy stuff like serious moderatorship and the someone potentially "controlling the community" is thoroughly overdramatic
like bruh its facepunch we come to fuck around and have fun its literally an internet community we arent a political body or some shit where we have literally any obligation to be "responsible" like theres any kind of power to be weilded
garry doesnt owe the community shit
As a matter of fact, he would never have been voted a mod in the first place
Shitty mods are going to get elected regardless, but clearly at this point the community would do a better job than the current system, even if it's marginally.
I get that you see it as over dramatic shit, it’s just moderation quality has always been a staple of this place since the dawn of its creation. It’ll always be something that people care about here
Read between the lines here mate, the reason why it's "thoroughly overdramatic" is because we're all here for that reason, we think the same thing, having a poor mod team that's actively pestering the community in some cases prevents that.
Some of the moderators banned him for shit reasons, so I told anyone to pass any bans by me.
Essentially, pretty much. But don't forget added transparency towards mods, and the actions and decisions they take. The gap between moderator and user should be lessened, Mods should not see themselves above the community, and the community should not see themselves below the moderators.
It's a possibility. Internet democracies are a weird thing and have a number of flaws. The "whole community" is rarely actually involved in them because it's really only a subset that give a toss, much like real life I suppose.
They've never gone so abhorrently wrong that we've had to purge the mod team here to be fair, but the system we've used for most of our mod choices (i.e. the mod team knowing the user well enough to know if they'll be a problem by and large) has worked quite well. The mod team rarely has (public) fights and I'd like to think that's due to the members being vetted, rather than potentially being hugely contrasting on the goals of their role and the site to the point of hostility that you could risk from randoms.
I havent read much of this at all as I am dealing with the wipe day rust discord but. Who else would want to take on the Rust crowd?
alright karl marx pipe down
Yeah we do and we don’t want that atmosphere ruined through poor moderation by ego trips, tantrums and agendas
Seriously?
moderator notoriety is like half of fp lore lol
I can definitely get behind more transparency from the mod team as to what the fuck goes on behind the scenes a bit more. Just so the community knows where it stands with our fairly loose interpretation of some rules and upcoming changes within the team.
Also please calm down with the name changes lads, I can usually assume the hot new mod on the block is just crapt again, but fucking christ.
obviously not you cretin
At this point it in general should just be a community vote , if people think you’re good, then you’ll just stay. For any mod. Has nothing to do with the bias of if you can or can’t. We shouldn’t be able to pick or choose why for any particular mod , every mod should be equal.
Does that sound fair ?
I can understand wanting to bring some levity into this but come on now
It was, but I would say as the community grew up it rightly faded away bar a few exceptional instances in the last 5 or so years. FP became a lot more casual.
What the fuck is going on?
My only wish for whatever new mod team is for the love of god, stop changing your names to something nobody can recognize
They still come and go. Some just stay around for much longer than other. Mikfoz was around for a hell of a long time but not anymore
Honestly , it might be good progress for fp tbh
If we’re dropping mods I know I want to keep taliyah and flak, maybe crapt, all for reasons unrelated to this thread but perceived character over time. Might as well drop anyone looking to full time KO. Don’t know who’s left after that and if anyone else has keepers
