The fact that shit happened and nothing came of it still absolutely boggles my fucking mind.
I'm still upset to this day nothing happened at all after this
I hope I have a section on that wiki
Biases form over the ideas, this is just wanting to keep the position you've had for years and are unwilling to give it up under the due to seniority. Sure improvements can happen, but if any real change is to happen a clean slate is needed. The old moderators would eventually begin clashing with the ideas of newer ones, and would never be implemented and tried to be seen whether it would function well in the long term or not. Newer moderations would eventually burn out from their ideas not being allowed because Seniority also means your opinion is right and the community would be left with the same old moderators.
I am not here :O https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/178138/343931da-e284-4f76-91b5-5bbac840b06b/image.png
Yeah 'cause the mod team has sure showed us that they know a lot about moderating themselves. The admin should have final say, certainly, but mod team votes are part of why we are where we are with community approval being brushed aside. Not to say they shouldn't matter, but giving them final say puts us right back where we started.
i'd want fp to stick around because I got a sick exclusive animated background I,m a man of simple needs
I've taken weeks off work to finish off development, is there any point in me continuing?
I wasn't even here for this and this pisses me off greatly. I suppose we're going to excuse this as the ol' mod shitposting, eh? ALSO: Can we abandon the constant stream of 'but why new mods?' You can disagree with the idea, sure go right ahead, but constantly saying you don't understand why it is being considered just sounds like you're skimming people's posts at best. If people aren't happy with the current mod team and then there's this new forum transition towards Knockout, which is going to have the same mod team, you're giving the more reluctant posters a wonderful reason to jump ship and abandon the community. Why stay when it's going to be another playground for mods to act like prepubescent edgelords then face zero repercussions? If the overriding objective of Knockout is to preserve the Facepunch community, learning nothing from FP's flaws and keeping all its bad components is a great way of undermining that objective.
Yes. You and @Inacio あそばせ have done really good work. Stick at it.
what does being in the wiki have any relevance? Does it matter or something
he's baiting people
Was just curious tbh. Sorry for diverting the topic
Eat shit
If you've followed the mod team at all that really hasn't happened.Of the old guard, really the folks still active are Hezzy,Postal , Crap, Orkel, and myself (though I didn't become a mod until much later). In general our moderator discussions have always included all mods at all levels, with input being taken from everyone. Of course for the old guard sometimes that makes things difficult to get accustomed to once things change, I know I had a hard time distinguishing between what was bannable and what wasn't once the Rules in general became more laxed. We've rarely ever had a complete clash of ideals when new mods joined the team, whenever there is a point of contention among the team we have almost always talked it out and found a consensus to move forward with.
Or maybe garry doesn't see the point because its not profitable and losing members It was rigged, they were all elected anyways.
that wiki hasn't been updated in yonks I'd forgotten about it until now and I think my account is still an administrator there
So I think I kind of misfired in thinking there’s a chance fp isn’t eventually dying. Can we atleast have a definite time of death made?
Actually incorrect, Booster was not modded.
Why not experiment with a fresh start, one or two people can remain from the old guard and watch over the actions of what the fresh batch of moderators are doing, what changes they bring, and how their performance stacks up, a grace period of a few months, and if the fresh batch proves that they are as capable as the previous mods, and their changes are well received and implemented, then they can remain, proving they are capable. If they are unable to handle the tasks or everything begins to fall apart when the end of the grace period isn't even near, they can be removed and the previous mods reinstated, proving that they are incapable.
This thread is really fucking bumming me out. Not necessarily the part where the forum remains in limbo despite garry making a thread about it, I've gotten used to that, but the fact that now neither migrating to KO nor remaining here on Facepunch seem like good options either way. A select number of mods here seem kinda shitty, and the idea that they'll be mods on KO is unnerving. That being said, only a few of the original "color guard" mods still hang around while the rest (with exceptions of course) don't seem to have the community's interests in mind. Pair that with the complete lack of communication that seems to go on with this forum behind the scene is kinda painful. I realize it's completely stupid to expect Facepunch to retain any of its original qualities over the years, but I think having Garry's Mod as a centerpiece of the community brought a lot of common ground into place, and everyone seemed to be looking out for one another for the most part. Now that Facepunch Studios seems more like an afterthought at this point, I don't think that same level of community exists, though there's always going to be exceptions (the LGBT+ thread and the Suicide/Depression thread are absolutely exceptional). I really hope there'll be some massive turnaround, like garry will make this forum open source and let the community work on it (doubtful) since he doesn't seem to enjoy doing this anymore, because KO doesn't seem like it's built upon the same foundation that Facepunch was built on.
Open source community developed fp would be a great way to go forward , but I have no idea if it’s an option at all to keep fp going down that route , I know Garry said he had the idea to do that but now that KO exists I don’t know if that’s on the table anymore
Please just never do this, people are here, the numbers speak for themselves
The problem is he doesn't care about the numbers, he's tired of running/paying/developing it. And he says that too many Facepunch Studios things are intertwined with the code of the forums to just opensource or release them to select community members.
To keep on topic with the question at hand I would love FP to stay in its current setting and the forum system polished to a level where all basic functionality is working for users and mods a like. Much like most users here I have a long history with this place and its engraved as a part of my daily routine. I would hate to see this place go. I don't want to have to go through a migration to a whole other forum website but if push came to shove I would do it to be apart of some semblance of this community. I fully understand exactly why KO was created but necessarily don't agree with the way it was pushed and advertised. This whole thread straight up makes me feel like we are fucked anyway we turn and I really don't want that to happen.
Thats the major problem as far as handing the forums off goes. We had already discussed that with him a long time ago, aside from the GDPR issues that would essentially mean starting from scratch anyway a lot of FP's API is tied into the forum.
This must be a bunch of behind the scenes stuff because I have never really seen anything on the forums that would elude its connected to any of their game systems and such.
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107270/14e054ed-5e36-4922-8c7d-b1ff87bb0cac/image.png I dunno if this is veiled enough to count as acceptable with the fp/knockout mods but lol this is just plain transphobia, not even just 'joking around'. maybe if he was just some rando poster it'd be okay but a moderator saying stuff like this is pretty yikes
Every few months or so we get a thread like this from you and nothing changes, it's time you actually make a decision, however selfish it may be. Don't leave us hanging any more. The solution you've given us to strictly turn this place into an API to exploit wouldn't be user friendly, and only diehard fans would bother. I like it much better here because I'm a Facepunch shill, and I don't want to move to some new forum software handled by people I don't trust. But looks like an entire community has to be thrown out the bus and scattered due to a failed experiment. There's no way to make everyone happy. And we certainly won't be spared. I've been rewriting this post for the past hour and getting frustrated realizing this.
Some rando poster would have been banned.
