I don't think there's a problem with mods shitposting or whatever, that's always been a part of the forums charm. But I think people's concerns about the current team are totally valid. Shitposting needs to be something that's sprinkled on top of an actually functional foundation of forum-running. Until the current team can demonstrate the latter, nobody is going to have confidence in KO.

The point is not about Sosig, it's an attempt to compel mods to look properly at this thread, which is littered with people outright saying they don't trust the mods or they dislike the mods or they disagree with the mods, and it has been met with nothing substantive beyond mods either shitposting or waving off criticism as if this thread hasn't revealed some of them to be grossly malicious. If you allow mods to just frolic from thread to thread and from discord server to discord server being edgelords or whatever nonsense, you simply cement the theory that mods have an ever-extending safety net for whenever they fuck up. Regular posters don't have that. That dynamic, from the looks of it, is likely to carry over to Knockout, which will subsequently become Facepunch But Possibly Worse if this aloof stance is churned forever more.

"benefit the community long term". So I'm holding out on being active on knockout because I don't see it surviving in the long term even if facepunch crashes and burns. For a community to survive you need a influx of new members. This isn't just for growth purposes but to replace the members you lose for any reason. Right now all knockout has going for it is every mod on facepunch advertising it. AFAIK there are no current plans in place to gain new members other then harvesting facepunches userbase. Facepunch Studios still supports this forum officially. New games such as sandbox could bring more life to the forum if done right. Knockout does not have this support and any new members are going to have to be from word of mouth. So if you're set on getting rid of FP that's up to you but I don't expect KO to survive in the long run.

Fuck Knockout and fuck closing Facepunch. Keep this beautiful disaster rolling. Nothing will ever be able to replace it.

If facepunch is to stick around, it needs work put into it to add basic missing features and fix bugs. If that can't or won't be done, kill it and get it over with.

I won't demand that Garry continue to care for FP if its not something he wants to do, Knockout is the best alternative but I don't want to see this 13 year internet home go away. I wish garry would at least give a little more information as to why he feels the forums are not to be cared for. I also don't get why shutting down the namesake forum that is proudly displayed on steam as Facepunch studios, long before you had a game on steam.

if it's going to die, just let it happen. it's like watching a loved one die a slow and painful death, just pull the plug on the life support. we moved from oldpunch to newpunch and lost a really substantial amount of active members, even LMAO pics moves at a snails pace these days, moving to knockout will absolutely have the same effect, at that point you might as well just stay on discord with your circle of friends.

From the looks of this thread, mods have managed to kill off Knockout faster than Garry could run Facepunch into the ground. Maybe this was all part of his plan. Should we get started on making the Knockout successor? We could call it Facepalm in honour of the current mods.

Okay, further explanations in this thread suggest it’s far worse than simply calling people snowflakes, which is basically nothing. Regardless, I think it would (should?) be up to the community to accept an apology rather than a buddies pardon

And that’s sad. As nice as it is having my pals around, if facepunch disappeared and I just moved to my buddies only I’d have no outside perspectives. I wouldn’t grow. I’d just be surrounded with people more likely to agree with me

I... really don't get what the big deal is with the mods out of the blue? They thought the site was legitimately dying - they weren't operating from the shadows to pull the rug underneath Garry. Plus, in regards to the Sosig situation, people at the time in the Forum Discussion thread were also pushing heavily for the situation to get another look into once Hezzy demodded him. Neither situation was handled perfectly, but I think this radical response is a bit hasty.

I feel as though a me without this place even up to just a couple years ago may be more critically inexperienced and lacking certain empathies

Can we agree a semi open source community updated fp would be a great step forward for fp if we can get Garry to agree ?

Before I went to sleep last night I was extremely optimistic about the future of this community. But now I realise this community truly is on its last legs, it doesn't seem like knockout is going to work and that was the only hope for this community to survive past this year at most. Everyone who thinks that Garry opening up the front end is a solution is delusional. It won't fix technical issues nor ones within the community. Now that it seems we are not moving to knockout, the days of this community a numbered more so than they were before. Drama killed knockout before it even had a chance. I'm feeling genuinely very depressed right now. There's no plan for the future and the community is tearing itself up over mod drama that has always existed. I'm very dejected now.

Feels like people have Knockout under a microscope and if anybody so much as twitches that's enough evidence to reject the very idea of moving over forever.

I take offense to calling the creation of KO a coup. I don't think some of you vocal accusers have any clue what we do here. We aren't trying to wrestle control in a coup we're trying to keep the community alive. You are arguing for the death of the community when you try to act like we should be marched to the guillotine for having "conflict of interest." The alternative to KO was nothing. It was discord. It was Reddit. Do you want to post on r/Facepunch? No? Okay then sit down. I'm not a programmer or professional website designer so I didn't have much skin in making KO, but I was willing to mod it if need be. But the guys who made it happen, They made an amazing attempt at keeping this thing goin. we rallied up and fantastically talented people took time out of their busy lives to make a place for you. Hezzy had like two jobs. I know the coders were full-time coders on top if it. Yet we created something that could carry on the community when it was gone in record time. It was built under the impression that the fall of the forums were imminent. We thought we had till the end of the year or so to get a backup going. So these people worked hard to make that for you. And yet you complain that it's a coup? That it was done out of self interest? It was done for you! It was done for the community! What do you want? We can't properly moderate Facepunch. The development on it is virtually abandoned. We can't make it better. We don't have that authority. To my understanding we can't legally take it over without starting from scratch. So we tried to make something better for you, but now that's a coooouppp Do you want me gone because I was all in on trying to keep this place alive? Because I wanted to be a part of this places continuation? If so I will resign. I hardly do much anymore anyway to be honest. But I don't see how tearing up the current mod team, some who have been here for many many years, and know what it actually entails, will do anything good for the communities existence going forward. Not to mention such a thing would require garry going forward with Facepunch which doesn't seem likely in the long term, let's be honest. Knockout is/was the best chance for the community. If you want to hang us for that then my conscience is clear and I'm not sorry.

This is pretty much a lot of what is wrong with the vocal minority of the community. They always seem to be the first ones into these discussions, decrying everything, offering no constructive criticism, demanding everything yet willing to offer nothing. It's the same people. They seem to enjoy making a lot of noise about how bad things are, but never seem to leave. It's probably why garry stopped developing the forums; he spent literal hours of his days pouring work into something that he knew wouldn't earn him any money. How did the community react? I think we all know all too well how that panned out.

The alternative wasn’t Reddit it was discord which is now replaced with knockout discords. The “saving fp” angle disappears/becomes suspicious when you start prodding Garry to kill it off to push people into “your facepunch”

I'm on board with the "if it's going down just do it" thing. We've been in limbo for months now, enough pussyfooting around. I've loved these forums, and I grew up with them, but I would rather just know then wonder every day what the hell is going on.
