Most people knew facepunch was on its deathbed a month or two after newpunch launched, it was painfully obvious how much the userbase had dwindled in such a short time, switching over to another forum is just going to accerlate this process Im sure everyone here can grasp the fact that if every single user switched, ko would have the same amount of users as newpunch, i feel most people are just thinking what is even the point

Zillamaster55 here, y'all can ban after this but I may as well drop some dribbles in this sea of piss. Facepunch as a forum is dead and there's no going back. Huge portions of the community were systematically snubbed, even before the switch, thanks to merging of forums and stuff like that. Newpunch was the nail in the coffin for many as the website entered a "generic" look rather than being the classic forum layout we were used to for more than a decade (for me since 2010). When the switch happened, lots of people left due to the formatting changes, the sudden ramping up of mod numbers, and how the community started to devour itself. When I first heard about Knockout, I was quick to slither on in because Facepunch has been a massive part of my life, even the shitty times. Because, goddammit, this was the community that made me into who I was and let me be who I am, and yeah 2016-17 turned into a dumpster fire but I think a lot of people lost their friggin' minds, much like I did. However, after doing only the most basic digging, I've seen that Knockout has decided to pull many of the worst aspects of Oldpunch's community and Newpunch's layout/community/moderation. That's a legitimate shame considering that Facepunch has been, and always will be, one of my favorite forums to have visited. It's a goddamn travesty that it's gone the way it has, and the blame can be passed around to just about every motherfucker who has any sort of clout here. Facepunch was a wonderful forum and a wonderful community that chose to tear its own guts out right up to the end, and when Newpunch came, there was nobody to put them back in. Even with those issues, all of them, I still look back on facepunch and smile about those old days. I understood what it meant to accept who I am, where I and others were in the world, fascinating aspects of history, culture, music and gaming. Facepunch evolved from "the place I go to ask dumb questions about GMod" to "the place I go to be with my friends". I loved facepunch, and there's a part of me that still does. When the sun sets, I just hope we can all see the stars together.

I hope during the hypothetical transition to Knockout that one of the first things we abandon is this practice of using 'it was just a shitpost' to deflect genuine criticism.

To add to this, Facepunch is merely a vessel. The website itself is meaningless. The only reason it has meaning is because of the community ITSELF, not the website. Without the community their is no facepunch. If everyone went somewhere else, the shell would be tossed away and another would take its place.

I think we all can appreciate the work put into KO. It’s amazing to have people care so much about what happens to people who love FP i it dies. I guess this thread is here to cement whether fp is actually dying or not

I don't like Knockout one bit. I don't want FP gone.

Potentially no longer having FP around would be QUITE disorienting to say the least. Sort of like living in a small forest town only to suddenly go back to it and only find wild forest. As a 13 year old boy I would have never anticipated that I would end up being a part of this place for such a ridiculously long time, I just thought that I was asking a bunch of dumb questions about gmod contraptions. I also never anticipated that gmod would and half life would end up being some of the most important videogames that I ever played, I was just looking for sandbox games to play because I liked the idea of sandbox back then.

The entire facepunch moderation team jumped over to knockout (this is also mentioned in one of the stickies on every subforum). The discord more or less got moved over to knockout as well. I don't think it was malicious but the moderators here have gone out of their way to shove KO down our throats. If we are going to move over to knockout then there has to be a plan in place for growing the community. What plans have the developers and moderator team made regarding this subject? Otherwise, it's a lifeboat with a closed community that will die a slow and painful death and likely be moved entirely to discord or steam at some point.

I'm just quoting the sticky. With the future of the Facepunch forums being anything but certain, the FP moderation team has decided to move over to Knockout.

I don't understand the point of closing down Facepunch unless you don't plan on releasing any more games.

@garry Look, I'm sure you're busy and perhaps you don't care about this place enough to keep developing it, but if you could do one thing for us, please make some sort of decision soon. Thank you.

@garry the only things I've wanted back from oldpunch is commenting on user profiles and private messages because that lead to some quality videos for me to make FP as a collection of the ban-happy mods, you as the almighty dictator, its users, and the site itself as the "official" location for rust/gmod give it a unique culture that cannot be replicated by transferring the forum to another site. Facepunch also has a history (see my YT channel among other notable FP videos) that is hard to replicate on other forums and social media sites. What you should do is keep Facepunch up and running, and add features from oldpunch that didn't make it over like user profiles, private messages, and the ticker.

garry will surprise everyone by revealing that he was working on mass releasing gmod 2 with facepunch 3 built in the entire time and that newpunch was just an extremely long running prank.
