You're assuming that Facepunch will remain in this state for all eternity. Garry is perfectly capable of developing and bugfixing the forums, like when he did with the Facebook authentication. He mentioned before that there is/was a plan to basically hand over development of the front-end to the community, which would free up some work from him.
It doesn't have to die, there is a third option. We just need a little bit of a push to make it seem like it's actually worth a damn.
I will continue to lurk knockout but I love FP. I have been around for 13 years, looking back at my post history I can clearly see whenever I was going through shit times in my life I turn to these forums and these people and post more. I recognise (or used to recognise) names, I get news and opinions from this website and I really used to like the design and stability .I loved teh strict but relatively fair moderation, I loved the exchange of ideas. I cannot in good conscience say close down the forums.
That being said I was just a teenager starting high school when I bought joined FP. I have finished high school, university abroad, started my life in a different country, I am getting close to 30, work a hard job with lots of responsibilities, make my own money. I cannot take this bullshit of "what if I make these forums worse until you move over to knockout" from a grown ass man with work and children of his own. These forums mean a lot to a lot of people so do whatever you fucking want but stop being so flippant about it.
I'm assuming Garry will not suddenly 'hey, I actually want to work on the forums fulltime again'.
My proof of this is: All of the months its been since Garry more or less told his staff 'I'm basically no longer going to work on the forums'.
He had a roadmap of things he wanted to develop for the forums too and it was even posted in that dropdown menu in the topright, which is now just 'the event log button except you have to press the button twice to get the event log now'.
The move to Newpunch wasn't really a facelift, a whole bunch of features were removed and bugs introduced.
In fairness, at least some of those features were due to return at some point nebulously in the future -- but then they got dropped, and then more dropped, and then the entire roadmap got dropped.
It is my understanding he would have to sit there and open up as much front-end as possible. back-end is proprietary shit for the company.
So no not even Open Source. You would have to live with the forum being perpetually incomplete.
I apologize for bringing up personal drama, but regarding Knockout and how the community is managed, I genuinely don't have high hopes for KO if this is going to be the response to criticism.

I don't think its really a good idea to move to an entirely different community. FP has been the main forum that made me grow as a person and seeing it shut down would be devastating to me. If it does shut down though I hope there will be a way to archive the fourms or migrate the database over to KO.

Honestly, me and a few others being shitters about him doesnt mean anything when hes a forum figurehead/dev, he represents the new forums and should at least put himself to a higher standard than any detractors.

I'm pretty pissed that its still going on. Kind of sick of seeing drama really. I really just don't want to be caught up in it and continue seeing people be fuckwits to each other.
I like it here, so no, I don't want the forum shut down. Moving doesn't interest me much even though I've already made an account and all that on Knockout (still think that name is kinda dumb tbh) I feel that I'm unlikely to be a very active user.
I'd much prefer if development was renewed on this forum.
It's only natural and necessary. Scrutiny is always going to be put upon the people literally running the website.
It all began when they took down the pinned posts and tried to direct everyone to knockout. I knew something was up but no one wanted to believe it

Criticism should be a form of feedback and I think there's been some serious miscommunication. It's really sad honestly.
So like are any of you going to atleast acknowledge @JerryAnderson 's summarization of past events, or is the plan to halfassedly dismiss it as "drama" that he wasn't even involved in at all, in the hopes that we don't notice? I don't care about joining another forum, if we are just carrying over the same bullshit and awful attitudes that have plagued this one honestly.
The whole shit with knockout with hezzy really soured most peoples outlook on the site. Nobody was ready for it, and hezzy sorted acted on his own but the damage was still delt.
I respect the work the boys have put into Knockout and will likely move there should these forums shut down but the only people i can see being regulars there after this place is gone is the people that have been active in the development thread and maybe some scattered people scrambling for a place that haven't realized what's going on. I want it to work, i want the whole community to move there and shit continue as normal, but i don't think it'll happen and i'd rather just have FP.
