Its not 1:1, it increased each time you buy a pixel, first is 1 coin, second is 3 coins and so on.
1 coin then anything after that is +2 coins, so costs go like 1, 3, 5, 7 etc

they only incrase price in the axis you spend in them, so buying a pixel in the y axis won't increase price in the x axis
