how is duolingo? i was going to use it to learn dutch but i haven't really looked into what the best place to do it would be
how do you deal with foreign characters, i'm doing Hebrew on duolingo and it's impossible to learn on there because of issues with how the language actually works
I have two printouts of the Hiragana (24 characters not including the ゛Datuken dot things that change the pronunciation) and the Katakana (ditto) above my desk.
I practice the letters using tinycards whenever I'm idle, like on breaks and lunch at work, which works like a flashcard system on my phone. And I practiced writing them repetitively.
and I use WaniKani for Kanji, I think I'm nearly at 300 kanji now.

But I was also naturally blessed with incredible reading retention, so as long as I read it I can remember it. like 50% of the time at least, if I'm not interested I'll forget it quick.
Repetition works wonders though.
Try and find a SRS system like ANKI, I think there's a hebrew flashcard system for it but I haven't checked.

OH, and something that helped me remember it was to dissociate it from English as much as I could mentally. I don't know if that'd work for hebrew characters though.

I've used duolingo to try and learn spanish before but I got BORED because I didn't really like spanish, duolingo wasn't to blame.
But I started learning Japanese and even though the duolingo course really doesn't give a good enough explanation on things the community usually goes above and beyond with comments and resources.
As far as dutch goes I dunno, haven't checked out their dutch course.
I'd say, give it a shot and see how it goes, doesn't hurt to try and you might enjoy it.
But learning a language takes a commitment, and for me that commitment is TIME.
I also use a few other sites like memrise and wanikani, so I'd recommend using more than JUST duolingo.
