Hoo boy. Funny story. So me and my mother were talking about 9/11 and Pearl Harbor and how their cultural impacts compared to each other, and the Pearl Harbor eventually spun into Japan's role in WW2 in general, particularly their actions on the Pacific Ocean. Now here's the thing. Both my grandfathers fought in WW2. My paternal grandfather was in the U.S. Army, but my mom's dad was in the Navy, and specifically fought against the Japanese. My mom goes into a spiel over "and here's how I almost didn't exist!", recounting the story her dad told her about the time his ship got hit and was in danger of being destroyed... by the Japanese battleship Yamato.
"Oh, no..." I go into a massive giggling fit, because I'm a millennial who is privy to both gaming and Japanese culture. So now I have to mention, just to bust her balls, "Well, fun fact: there is now a massively popular multimedia franchise in Japan that reimagines all those WW2-era Japanese ships... as cute anime girls." This elicits an eye-roll and an "Oh, you're kidding me." She goes to get more coffee and mentions how if her brother - himself a drafted Vietnam vet - would flip if he ever got wind of that. During a brief interlude where we discuss how the Japanese women's curling team this Olympics may or may not have sounded like an undubbed episode of Sailor Moon, I jump on her computer and immediately pull up the KanColle wiki as she comes back.

I've been playing Dead Space 1 on PC again (on steam, unfortunately), and I just now realized it has sooo many sound issues. So many of the original sound files either aren't working, or aren't there to begin with. Most of the foot steps, ALL of the weapon sounds (save for the actual firing sound effects), most of the little creepy, creaky metal noises, etc etc. I should've just stuck with the free copy I got on Origin.
I am so sad. Last few days temps were positive and the ice was melting and now it's snowing again.
