No, not random. You get more coins the more active you are. You don't get coins for posting.

I'm pretty sure just using the forum in any capacity will generate coins over time for you, hence just being "active." That's how it seems to be currently, anyway.

What about ratings giving you coins instead of posts, would cut out the people who post just to get gold since other users basically decide if you get coins or not.
Could either be done that people get a special Coin reaction they can give (max 3 per day or so?) or when they get a positive reaction like funny, cookie and friendly.
