Honestly, I wouldn't be so upset with the coins if their were things outside of posting that could be done to earn them. Hell, the forums could always go the Gaia Online route and just add silly minigames like fishing, puzzles, ect.
All of those minigames could also be coded by the people who use the forums, and contests could be held every month too add new minigames. This could also backend into that one concept FP Studios had regarding an Arcade game.

I think that's more down to the site not being officially launched yet. People will start taking it more seriously when this is for real.

See, I really do not see anything wrong with that TBH. It could always go the Gaia Online approach, but allow players to make their own custom subforums/sections. With moderator approval of course.
Another thing which could be added for community coins, is by having any of the official Facepunch gaming servers linked directly to the forums. For example, if I join the Official Rust servers, I get points for playing on it and such.
Overall, the current gamification of the forums will open up the doors too several new features and concepts. I also still stick by my idea of having an arcade game section where players can try to best each other for high scores in stuff like Pong, Asteroids, and------ more recent Flash/Unity games. Think of how Kongregate hosts their stuff.

I am a privileged gold member, how dare you tell me my status is useless.
Considering how many gold members there are, it does feel a bit useless. It wasn't until recently that I realized what was once a 1:10 ratio gold to blue is now like 1:3.
I was gold for like a week before becoming green
now green is nothing special and all the mods are blues, what a time to be alive
It does stop people being idiots about it though, thinking they have more rights etc because they are blue or whatever.
I always viewed it to be more of a prestige thing. Like, you lasted a certain amount of time and accumulated enough posts for a certification of sorts. But I guess enough time has passed that this group includes everyone and their mother
