I find it really hard to empathise with these kind of stories cause they're all the same in the end...
A character is given a long human-like backstory so we can relate and then he dies meaninglessly as a blip on the screen...

Well, just think. every single human enemy you kill in say... modern warfare 1 (the best one)
would have had a life like that, been born gone to school, had relationships. some where probably married. few had kids.

I've seen the joke done about a thousand and a half time from anything ranging to Koopa Troopas, Goombas, Stormtroopers, Metal Gear solid guards, etc, etc.
I never feel any worse about it.
