Google has a special team that works on YouTube, so it wouls be fine to use "YouTube" instead of Google.

I would at least hope that they would make it customisable, so that I could remove things like the recommendations bar and extend the subscriptions bar, but I can't find anything like that. And I don't see why I should have all those channels on the left either, all I really want is a list of subscriptions.

As I've said, I can't decide if I like it or not. I mean, it's really smooth and minimalistic in design, but it just feels cluttered, which doesn't go with the smooth and minimalistic design.
It looks fine but it wastes all of the space. People with widescreen monitors don't turn them 90* so it's a narrow long monitor, now I have like half a foot on each side of the shit with nothing happening.
How to I remove some of the videos the people I have subscribed to uploaded?
On the old layout you could press a little X and remove them.
Google Chrome users with a lot of space on the edges, just use Ctrl+Mouse Wheel to adjust the zoom. The setting stays on YouTube alone. Not sure how other browsers do it, though.

Not only is 2/3rds of my space wasted with things I never used in the previous update, but I can't even fucking move them. Then there's the unnecessary white space on the sides. Don't forget about the feed style of videos, which only shows one video per line with information that isn't even necessary. I'm not going to read the description of a video unless I go to the video itself. Put multiple videos on one line, that was actually useful, plus they designed it in such a way that it was visually efficient.
Subscriptions are much harder to keep track of now :(

the old one worked just fine
