Because it's really easy to both get into and do well on, and it gives feedback that makes you feel like you do well whenever you do so (killstreaks, those things popping up saying DOUBLE KILL! and such). The single player might be rather silly but look at it as a typical action movie and it's pretty enjoyable :v:
As a casual game series they have nailed it really really really well.

I have my locale set to Japanese because if I don't I would get problems with Touhou, Danmakufu, and UTAU. The system language is in English so everything should be displayed in English.
