I don't really care much about DPPt, call me when they get to HGSS

Pokemon manga scanlations are a fucking mess. DPPt has been stuck at the 30s the last time I checked whereas I've heard word that another group was already scanning HGSS and had a few chapters up but I've never found them anywhere.

A serious Pokemon manga is something I always thought would be pretty cool. Even Special is aimed at a younger audience.

But no one ever dies when they are killed in pokemon. It's like a rule of thumb.

He'd just stuff him back into a plastic ball and have him heal his terrible wounds in a pokemon center for 5 seconds.

I adore Special, but towards the end of Emerald the scanlating scene went to hell. There were two options for getting translations at that time. Chuang Yi was the "official" English translations. They were a Singapore based company I believe and they had been translating Special since the very beginning. The problem is that they were fairly slow about it, and tended to lag behind the Japanese releases by several months. The other option, and it was the [i]only[/i] option at that time, was this one Chinese kid who had never translated something before, translating the Chinese translations of the source material to English. The results were pretty bad, and he did [b]not[/b] take kindly to criticism, often throwing fits and threatening to stop translating when people brought up the superior (albeit slower) Chuang Yi translations. His translations and typesetting were not up to standards, but there was simply no other option at the time. This was a few years ago I believe. It was a tremendous mess and contributed greatly to why I stopped reading Special. There is hope though. Although these guys don't have everything yet, it appears they are trying to rectify this by creating a unified place to get all these comics. It's my guess that they are also going to be internally consistent (I.E. Blue will remain as the girl, Green as the guy for the entire run.)
