Generally if you treat them like any other dangerous animal (i.e: slow, cautious and deliberate movements) they won't sting. Japanese Giant Hornets can actually be cooked to death by Japanese Bees by swarming it, and vibrating so much on the hornet that is scorches it to death.

There's also the vespa velutina (literally called killer wasp) that came to Spain in a chinese container a little while ago and has been killing our poor little bees. They look like hornets on steroids and are scary as hell for what we see normally.

As someone who's spent the last six months trying to rid my cat of them, I'd say we should concoct a way to eradicate fleas. Wasps are kinda useful at least because they have dependents in the food chain. Fleas are parasites who only serve to inflict misery on whatever they're infesting.

Wasps just can't sting you that painfully for some time, since their venom is depleted after the first one.
At least that's what I've heard.
