Boil as in put it on the stove or as in put it in the microwave for 2 minutes? I suppose only one of those is actually boiling but the temperature would end up the same.

With heat, things expand. Reduce the temperature, and they contract. If you expand unevenly or too quickly, shit happens.
Here, some kids heat up a light bulb, and then spray water on it. The water causes it to cool VERY quickly, causing it to burst.
