I'm not sure, but i believe it has something to do with the pattern of atoms (so actually the electrons) in the object. I imagine silk is more like a fuzzy cloud on microscopic level that changes shape when you touch it. This makes it feel softer.

Electrons doesn't work like that. It's a matter of how the atoms are shaped which create the different types of texture. Did you skip physics and biology in school?
