BMPs load upwards, yes, but the main issue is that they employ pretty much NO form of compression whatsoever. JPGs utilize lossy compression (save as JPG, quality is irreparably lost). PNG utilizes lossless compression (save as PNG from BMP, filesize goes down, quality does NOT.) BMPs are just raw data.

Plus there is no support for animation, and extremely poor support for transparency so fuck BMP, PNG is better in all regards
