Many people have been sending me links to an online article showing the knock-off Star Wars Episode 1 figures Alec & I looked at recently, but showing the full not-cut-in-half card backs with a picture of Queen Amidala. And in the red space for the Commtech chips the originals had, humourous names have been written in for some of them. The story is now being picked up by traditional news outlets as an amusing narrative.

It’s clearly not a real thing, folks. The names are suspiciously comedically British (with a few ‘normal’ ones thrown in to allay suspicion perhaps) rather than the word salad you get from actual faulty translations, and the text has been obviously added afterwards with Photoshop - all the letters are absolutely straight, when the actual package is at a slight angle.

The cards on the figures I reviewed were probably cut off to hide the fact that they all have Queen Amidala’s face on them, or possibly to save display space by a particularly ruthless shop owner. They were not to hide the fact that Darth Sidious has been referred to as “Daft Serious.”
It’s a really funny joke article, but it isn’t real, so I can’t review them. But hey, maybe one day I’ll find a Mexican Vader.
