while I would say that the VN is better as a whole, it's probably not worth the extra 25 hours of playtime just for the marginally better experience
clannad has an exceptionally good adaptation and there's a reason it's not thrown in the same bin as stuff like majikoi and fate/stay night

god, the animation was so smooth and crisp and fluid, it was an experience nearing that of a Miyazaki film! the monstrous beings and organic ships helped with that, as did the character design
