just responding in general to the conversation going on here a lot of mainstream anime focuses more on attractive characters and cheesy humor than having a decent plot or provoking thought or feelings. Anime can be good and I have heard of or seen a couple of good series, like Paranoia Agent and Elfen Lied.. it's just the fact that the art style itself focuses on being pretty. In my opinion, it doesn't give a lot of room for stylization so a lot of anime looks similar and doesn't use its art style to add to the story.
In all honesty if a show is a good show, regardless of art style/creator/culture, then I'll probably watch it. Some anime shows are good, others are shit, in the same way that some american/european shows are good and others are shit. For example i like Scrubs but i hate That's so Raven, just becuase they are both live action doesn't mean i despise both of them.
sorry for this bump but holy shit you do realise that superflat is a focus on the satire of modern japanese animation and how completely soul-less it is? take this work for an example. here you see a character with the features of modern "moe" stylization transposed onto a scene which can be described as miyazaki-influenced, showing how flat and uninteresting the moe character is compared to actual good works of animation superflat isn't derived from anime, it is SATIRE.
It's like ghostbusters but not.
