Fallout 3 was fun, but new vegas is new...
Buy 'em both
Not at the same time. That'll cost twice as much money and I'd end up playing one and then probably just never play the other.
I think you should get Fallout 3 just for the sake that Fallout 3 GotY addition has more content, but New Vegas is also a good choice
Should I get best paper towels in town, or best paper towels around?
I'll take both!

But imagine you have to choose to get one kind of paper towels first and then the other kind. Which do you choose?
I currently do prefer New Vegas to Fallout 3. But Fallout 3 still seems to be bigger interior wise, and tells a lot more through terminals and the such.
New Vegas is just so much fun.
Fallout 3
You get more material for the same price (Operation Anchorage, Broken Steel, etc...)
Also, New Vegas looks identical to FO3. Just new buildings, creatures and some weapons...most all of which you can get from free mods
new vegasse has more interesting crap to do in settlements, fo3 has more interesting crap to do in the middle of nowherere
I like vegas much more, however FO3 has some merits to it, like the radio personalities and songs were much better in my opinion. Three dog > Mr. New Vegas
I think I might go with the minority and buy Fallout 3, just because their arguments seem to make better sense to me...

I'd say to do FO3 first.
If you play New Vegas, then FO3, you might miss some of the features that NV had.
This.
You'll get pissed at all the stuff that won't be there if you play NV first.

really it comes down to whether you like the colour green, or yellow better.
...plus the color green is amazing.
New Vegas is an overall improvement. The voice acting is much better.
What do you think from this video?

Honestly, I think Bethesda fucked up what could have been a perfectly good game when they made Fallout 3. They didn't grasp the concept enough, and most of the game was pretty stupid (let's be real here, wouldn't a shit ton of nukes just devastate D.C.?). I think Obsidian managed to hold true to Fallout when they made New Vegas (for one thing, Obsidian is made up of Fallout's old developers), and if you look past the glitches, it's a great game.

Keep in mind I've never seen FO3's Voice Acting either.
The closest thing I know is Oblivion.
If you like Fallout, get them all... from first fallout to New vegas... with all DLC's
Both.
Definitely New Vegas. It's has a longer story with more primary endings+many mini subplots. It's also less buggy and a far more challenging game.
