Libertarianism is closer to the modern Republican party than the Democratic other than the social issues which faux-conservatives have made their trademark.
Nearly all libertarian politicians have been a member of the Libertarian party itself or the Republican (Barry Goldwater, Ron Paul, ect.)

I'm not trying to make my group more popular, which doesn't have much to do with this party, by the way - people who are freethinking are encouraged to join. There aren't many freethinkers here anyway.
