Arthropod means "jointed leg". Arthropods include insects, arachnids, centipedes, millipedes, etcetera.
The octopus, however, is a mollusk, like a snail, or slug.
On the great, grand tree of the evolution of life, the major distinguishing factor between mollusks, and annelids (I.e. earthworms), is that earthworms developed bodily segmentation. This carries on into arthropods, who evolved from annelids, and have developed segmented legs.
