Minority Report: Everybody Runs, the ragdolls are hilarious.
The Half-Life series is widely unknown compared to the overrated giants.
its gotten more publicity because of the sequel, but The Darkness if you have a console. Amazing game, really.
Not hipster-class unknown, but I believe X3:Terran Conflict deserves a lot more recognition than it gets.
Anything by Tim Schafer (mainly referring to Psychonauts and Brutal Legend) Eternal Darkness Custom Robo (Gamecube) The first Tropico game (I still play it fairly often) The first Stronghold game Aliens vs Predator 1 and 2 (PC - unrelated to the more recent "Aliens vs Predator" game) Legacy of Kain series (except Blood Omen 2) Black and White 1 and 2 (no, not the Pokemon game) Deception series (very first one is old but similar to Evil Genius) Silent Hunter III I guess none of these are really "unknown", though. Except maybe Deception, at least outside of Japan. Also, get the expansion to The Movies, Stunts and Effects, if you're going to make any custom movies.
Super Mario RPG was pretty overlooked because the N64 was right around the corner when it was released. Good game. As stated before, the Mother series is great too. Oh, Sam and Max as well. When some people think of Sam and Max, they think: "Overpriced TF2 Hat." But the games themselves are amazing if you like a good point n' click adventure injected with loads of crude humor.
I'd say Postal 2.
God Hand for PS2
The Jak and Daxter series is still my favorite series of all time.
The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena Also contains Escape from Butcher Bay on a new engine Both are amazing, probably the best movie-related games ever made.
The Thief series.
Black and White ... still have never met a person in real life who has played this game.
Magic the Gathering: Battlegrounds (Xbox) is pretty fun to play, if not particularly deep or complex. And no, it isn't a card game. In fact, it's pretty intense once both you and your opponent start using as many spells as you can fit in your list, and learning how to beat the computer on harder levels/difficulties definitely takes strategy and patience.
Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS1 was very good. Very difficult, but rewarding.

If you've missed out on Psychonauts, it's definitely worth a go. PC and Xbox.
i love this game, i changed my text tone to the maniacal laugh. It creeps a lot of people out, especially at night.
Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins on PSP; It's hard as hell, but pretty enjoyable once you get past the learning curve.
Modern Warfare 3
The Misadventures of PB Winterbottom It's about a notorious pie thief who accidentally ends up lost in time, unintentionally causing several paradoxes, and saving the day on his chase for an enormous magical pie. A platfomer puzzle game like Braid or Limbo, but a lot more fun. As in, it's not some overly serious artsy game, it's a really humorous, challenging, and fun to play game. It has an awesome story, and the music is beyond this world. I think it's very cheap on steam right now, and there have not been a single moment I have ever regretted buying this game.
