3: Don't enter a dark room or poorly lit area and say "Hello?"

4: Don't laugh at the idea of a rapist murderer shortly before entering said room/area

5: If you MUST enter said room/area, make sure your torch has a full battery so it doesn't run out at some point.

6: If all else fails, have some lube. If you can't avoid the worst, you can at least make it bearable.
