And, surprisingly, Japan censors more than either, in both categories. It's still technically illegal to show genitals, even in porn. That's a good chunk of the reason why Japanese porn is so weird - they have to get around all kinds of laws. Violence, they're about on-par with Europe, maybe a bit more conservative. And they're really touchy about nukes - the "nuke Megaton" quest would have given Fallout 3 an AO-equivalent rating if they hadn't removed it.
