the giant robots represent nukes on an even more grand scale, they're what the entire series is about
without them there's nothing really to build on other than another generic war game. they're the ultimate weapon, they're the thing some people want to control and others want to destroy
just because the series isn't about them directly doesn't mean they're not the entire structure of the games[/sp]
